Nature And Weather
This chapter is about Nature and Weather. Nature because I love being out among birds and out on Aronson Island, and enjoying a nice summer day. It's healing to anyone who understands. Just being out there can give you a calming, wonderful feeling. Peace and solitude, just to sit and listen to the birds, or to watch them.
Weather, because there is so many different kinds. Rain, clouds, snow, and just blue skies and white puffy clouds. A windy day. Whatever the weather is, life still goes on and we have to deal with it.

A
Seagull’s Flight
© By
Bud Lemire on March 27, 2010
Gazing
out my window in the morning light
I
came across a view of a seagull’s flight
He
flew in a circle and then up so high
With
graceful ease did this gull fly
Oh
to have those wings to fly anywhere
With
wings so beautiful, taken to air
“It
must be great to be a bird”
Is
what was said as I overheard
How
would we know, never being one
To
gaze in wonder, in the morning sun
To
see below from a flight so high
They
must have good vision in their eye
Then
from above so high, they take a dive
To
the water and catch a fish that’s still alive
They
must see the fish while they are in flight
And
quickly they dive to grab a bite
Amazing
are the creatures that we live among
We
hear their stories in the songs that are sung
The
Seagull with those wings to fly anywhere
And
my imagination so that I can be there
Thank
you God, for the birds and countless other animals,
for
they are truly wondrous creatures that live among us.
A Snowbow
© by Bud Lemire on March 24, 2004
If there is a rainbow, why can't there be a snowbow
The beauty of the season, after a good fall of snow
The shades of white, among the trees and ground
The clouds up in the sky, wherever they are found
A snowman in the yard, built by little hands
A snow fort in the backyard, fortified to stand
Icicles hanging from the roof, shining in the sun
The sparkling of the snow, when the day is done
Moonlight on the snow, stars up in the sky
Pack yourself a snowball, watch out for the eye
The snowflakes falling down, on a starry night
The feeling that you feel, gazing upon snowlight
There are so many things, in this wintry season
The beauty of the snow, is the greatest reason
So even though, there's no such thing as a snowbow
It's nice to see the beauty, from a winter's soul
A Snowflake Fell
©1999 by Bud Lemire
A snowflake fell, upon my nose
Warming me up, from my head to my toes
It touched me, in a special place
Within my mind, was your smiling face
My heart beat stronger, as it should be
Because you thought enough, to share it with me
And with this love, I passed it around
You don't have to look hard, for it to be found
Among the people, you love the most
Or the spirit within, from a family ghost
A snowflake fell, upon my nose
Warming me up, from my head to my toes
It touched me, in a special place
Within my mind, was your smiling face
It kept me going, when life was tough
Soothing my fears, and it was enough
To let me know, I'll survive this day
Replenishing my courage and strength, as I go on my way
This is an early poem I wrote, before I got
in the routine of writing them regularly
April's Snow
© by Bud Lemire on April 9, 2016
As you gaze upon April's snow
A second winter out your window
The birds have come and they seek food
A little snow shouldn't cause an attitude
Mother Nature is never the same
It's not her that we should blame
Everything is changing these days
Planets are going through a certain phase
The Weather is changing with each passing year
We must take what we get, and enjoy with good cheer
Warmer weather will come, but right now it's turned around
Soon we'll be wearing less clothes, wherever we're found
We never know what the weather will be
Only to wait and then we will see
Enjoy every season, no matter what it is like
It won't be too long, before I'm riding my bike
April's snow may have hit, when we least expected it to
But the snow will melt, and we'll make it through
Keep warm thoughts in mind, summer is on its way
Until that time arrives, just enjoy every day
It's been awhile since we've seen this much snow
at this time of year. Year to year changes, yet we
always get a summer, and we always make the
most of each season. Each season is to be enjoyed
to the fullest. So enjoy!
Aronson
Island
© By
Bud Lemire on June 10, 2010
A
Baltimore Oriole, Rose Breasted Grosbeak, or a Cedar Waxwing
Are
on Aronsons Island and you can hear them sing
So
much to see if you are aware
A
Brown Thrasher and woodpecker are even found there
A
Yellow Warbler, Barn & Tree Swallows, and the Killdeer
Beautiful
is their song as it comes upon your ear
The
Canadian Goose, And the Great Blue Heron can be found
If
you listen real closely, you can hear them around
Butterflies
can be seen on a warm summer day
When
flowers are in bloom and they like to play
A
Green Leaper is there, which is a frog
The
island is a great place to walk your dog
A
bike path leads right to the end
It’s
a wonderful place to take a friend
Walk
along the shore, take in the scene
On
Lake Michigan, where the trees are so green
Escanaba’s
Waterfront, what a beautiful sight
I’ve
even seen some people flying a kite
People
go there to swim, some go to fish
Possibly
a walk, or anything else that you wish
You
can launch your boat on the island too
There’s
so much at the island that you can do
I
make it a daily event to go to Aronson Island when the warm weather
is here. It brings me peace to see all the wonderful creatures that
come there. The beauty there is always found, and the songs of the
birds are always around. I try to capture what I can with my camera,
but some things must be experienced right on the spot.
Autumn Winds
© by Bud Lemire on Nov 14, 2005
Late in the Autumn, fierce are the winds
Soon is the time, where Winter begins
Leaves from the street, blow everywhere
While clouds get darker, high in the air
Strong are the winds, as they blow around
Almost lifting me, a little off the ground
Can't go against it, too much force
It's understandable, considering the source
Branches fall from an old tree
But none of them fall on me
Garbage cans are laying in many places
In fields alleys, and other open spaces
Against my window, the wind howls so much
Shaking and rattling, and carrying on such
I'm so happy I weigh as much as I do
If I weighed too little, I'd be blown away too
Autumn's Journey
© by Bud Lemire on Oct 10, 2014
The leaves are changing on the tree
Autumn leaves fall upon me
Orange and yellow and shades of red
The leaves have fallen and are dead
Through the winter the tree is bare
As the wind blows through the air
See the shape of the tree
It is bare, but oh not me
I put more clothes on in this season
Lower temperatures is the reason
The tree shows us that leaves will die
We call it The Fall, and never ask why
New leaves are born in the Spring
By summer the tree has everything
The leaves are back, the tree is fully dressed
Covered with leaves and looks its best
Just like the leaves that fall and die
Our own lives will pass on by
In the Spring we'll be born once more
When our journey takes us to Heaven's Shore
Just like the leaves on the tree, we too have a cycle
we follow. We die, and are renewed in Heaven and
start all over again.
Bob, The Great Blue Heron
© by Bud Lemire on July 14, 2012
There's a friend of mine that I often see
We call him Bob, but he's much more to me
A Great Blue Heron, who comes to Escanaba each year
If you have a fish to share, he will come near
I didn't name him Bob, someone else called him that
He eats a lot of fish, but he doesn't get fat
I'll find him by the Water Plant, and other places too
And take pictures of him, and all the things he can do
He has a design on his neck, beauty at its best
Sometimes he'll close his eyes and he'll take a rest
People give him fish, but he catches them also
He loves the attention of people who come and go
I get annoyed when people scare him away
A bird like him doesn't show up every day
I defend Bob, because he can not speak
I always watch him, as he moves his beak
Wherever there is fish, you can find him there
I even saw Bob in Wells, he can be anywhere
If you're driving along and see Bob as you pass by
Take time to get closer and get out just to say “hi”
I've been taking pictures of Bob for years now.
I look forward each time he comes back here.
Now and then you'll get people who are not nice to Bob.
But Bob means no harm and he really is a special creature
we share this world with. Bob and I each love fish. Of course
I like mine baked. He eats his raw. Thank you Bob for being our friend!
Clouds
© By
Bud Lemire on Sept 13, 2010
I
love the clouds of every shape and size
Bringing
alive my imagination right before my eyes
Do
you see an Angel in that big cloud above?
Or
that heart shaped one, it’s a sign of love
As
I look at them, no matter where the place
I
always count on seeing, somebody’s face
Oh,
see that cloud that is shaped like a bunny
With
a fluffy tail, now that one sure is funny
Do
you see that elephant in that cloud right over there?
With
it’s trunk held out, spraying water everywhere
The
next one looks just like a dog
Followed
by another that looks like a frog
I
love the clouds with the sky so blue
I
even saw a cloud that looked like you
There’s
one that looks like a Clown
And
the next one is a face wearing a frown
From
the middle, a sunbeam shoots out
Upon
the grass it shines all about
Oh
how it looks as sunlight is all around
Sunshine
naturally all over the ground
It’s
like a doorway from Heaven, setting all aglow
We’re
never alone, and we should always know
Look
skyward and see the clouds passing by
Remember
to always… hold your head high
Clouds
are so beautiful in so many ways. The shapes, the sunbeams,
the shades, and so much more. What do you see in the clouds?
What do you want to see? Let your imagination run wild.
Let the clouds take shape, just as you let your world take shape.
Go with the flow, and always know, that the beauty you see is all yours,
if
only you’re willing to let it be what you see it to be.
Dark Clouds
© by Bud Lemire on June 17, 2004
Dark clouds floating in the sky
With beams of light coming to my eye
Shades of dark and shades of light
A mix of black mixed in with white
Beauty is what comes to mind
Visions of lights and darks that I find
The clouds shaded in such a way
They come alive on this cloudy day
Beams of light come shining through
Out of the darkness to shine for you
Sometimes it can almost seem
As if you’re caught within a dream
Off in a distance, as if through a screen
The rain is falling, upon that scene
While where I am, it is quite dark
Very soon, the clouds will find this mark
Discovering, Every Day
© by Bud Lemire on Aug 21, 2015
As time seems to pass away
I look quite closely at each day
I look at flowers on the ground
I discover things when they are found
I look at the clouds in the sky
The shapes they behold to the eye
The sunlight shining upon a certain place
The smile it brings to my face
A dragonfly that lands upon a tree
All the things that will ever be
The butterfly that flutters without a sound
As I explore what is all around
The little things that can't be seen
We must take the time to look between
To look at things we might pass by
Like a bird's wings spread in the sky
Exploring nature and the beauty found here
Capturing it in pictures, it all becomes clear
Our busy lives has left us without a clue
Until we explore and see what we hardly knew
I try to take notice of the little things that most
people wouldn't even know was there. I recall
once standing outside while all these people sat
doing their own thing. A butterfly was flying around
them and they didn't even take notice. But what they
did notice was me looking at them. They wondered
what I was looking at. I asked them afterward, if
they had seen the butterfly. I think only one said
they saw it. The rest didn't even take notice. It made
me wonder, just how many people live their lives
without even noticing the little things.
Fallen Leaves
© by Bud Lemire on Nov 8, 2005
Fallen leaves found on the ground
See them there, they're all around
Trees once full, are now found bare
Falling leaves are happening everywhere
All the colors mixed together
Seen so often in the Autumn weather
Red and yellow, orange and green
Combined to make a beautiful scene
As the trees become empty of the leaves
We see the beauty of what Mother Nature weaves
The trees are preparing for the season ahead
Covering the ground with leaves on the Earth's bed
The children are playing in the leaf piles
You can see the happiness in their smiles
People are raking leaves out to the street
The Fallen Leaves, found beneath our feet
I Saw A Dragonfly
© by Bud Lemire on July 24, 2014
I saw a Dragonfly
As it went flying by
It landed on a branch nearby
Then it flew up very high
It flew low and then around me
Where it went, I couldn't see
It was golden color, this I know
The sunshine gave it a glow
Then a light blue one
Was shining by the sun
It had a shine so bright
Appearing in the sunlight
They were flying everywhere
But none landed in my hair
They seemed to land anywhere
On the sidewalk from mid-air
Dragonflies flying all around
On a branch or on the ground
A dragonfly caught my eye
I'm so glad I saw a Dragonfly
Dragonflies and butterflies are
so wonderful to watch and see.
They always seem to uplift me
with their presence
Island Birds
© by Bud Lemire on June 11, 2013
A sunny day on the island, can be so pleasant
The many birds seen, why even a Pheasant
The Swallows, the Chipping Sparrow, and the Mourning Dove
To my ears what I hear is the song of love
The Hummingbird, Cedar Waxwing, and Chickadee
Are just some of the birds on the Island that I see
The Yellow Warbler, Yellow Rumped Warbler, and the Cowbird
Was that a Baltimore Oriole that I just heard?
The Brown Thrasher, and Scarlet Tanager too
So many birds that will sing for you
The Robin, and the Starling are there
The Seagull and the Tern are in the air
Swans are in the water with the Canadian Geese
In the Yacht Harbor, they come in peace
A Flicker right there in the tree
Over there an Eastern Kingbird I see
A Horned Grebe and Mallard swam by
Then there's Bob, people stop to say “hi”
The American White Pelican often makes a stop
And sometimes an Eagle is seen in the tree top
The Merganser is usually having a bad hair day
Then there is the aggressive Blue Jay
So many birds that you can see
That's why I bring my camera with me
I see them all when I spend time
on Aronson Island, here in Escanaba
Lagoon In June
© by Bud Lemire on June 8, 2004
Fish are jumping in the water like a frog
While the turtles are climbing on the log
Dragonflies of all colors are flying around
As the fish make their splishy splashy sound
Ducks across the water, bathe themselves clean
While I watch them standing, on the grass so green
People would come by, they were out for a walk
Some would take time, to come up to me and talk
There’s some turtles swimming, also in this lagoon
On this hot day, in the month of June
Blackbirds come by for a dip
On the day I took a nature trip
The breeze blowing, feels so nice to me
Trees are in bloom, flowers opening up to see
On this special day, when I got in tune
With the nature in the Lagoon In June
Life
Is Your Classroom
©
by Bud Lemire on
March 10, 2009
Life
is your classroom, the earth, the water, and the sun
Tell
me what will you have learned, when your time is done
Experience
life through nature’s eye
Look
closely at the birds in the sky
We
can learn so much from the creatures all around
The
lessons being taught can be so profound
A
kitten looks out a window, taking note on what is seen
Seeing
all life moving by, and what’s in between
The
clouds, the sunrise, and the sunset
What
do you see, and what do you get
Recognizing
what is there, appreciating it all
Opening
your eyes to see beyond the wall
Opening
your heart as well as your mind
Seeing
the treasures, that you will find
The
trees, the water, the grass that grows
Seeing
and feeling whatever touches our souls
You
sit in nature’s classroom, what is it you learn
Whatever
you take in, and at every turn
Life
happens, we can only do our best
It’s
not so hard, to pass this awareness test
I find that by experiencing life, enjoying nature,
appreciating others, you can learn so much more.
Value
all you learn, and learn from everything you see and know.
Mother Nature's Smile
© 2002 by Bud Lemire
The fragrance of the lilac, the fragrance of the rose
The good smells of the flowers, that we smell with our nose
The birds that are singing we listen to their song
They fly so high in the sky, and stay up there so long
The beauty of the water, the waves upon the shore
The ripple effect, that changes us forever more
The ground that we walk upon, the earth beneath our feet
The love of every creature, in our lives that we meet
The beauty of the tree, as it stands there proud and tall
And the seasonal changes, when the leaves begin to fall
The snow upon the mountains, the snow upon the ground
The winter scenes of white, wherever they are found
The thunder and lightning, as it lights up the sky
The raindrops that fall upon us, from dark clouds that go by
The foods and plants and flowers, that start out as seeds
The growth in the human spirit, and the path to which it leads
To enjoy and appreciate, everything that surrounds us everyday
And take in the beauty of it, as we go on our way
Take the time from fast paced days, and enjoy life for awhile
Then you will feel the love, of Mother Nature's Smile
Oh yes, I love the beauty of Mother Nature's Smile.
Nature Walk
© by Bud Lemire on Oct 3, 2012
A walk upon the island, to see what I can see
So many things appear, it's a Nature Walk to me
A Kingfisher, perched up in a tree
Ducks on the shore, spreading wings so free
Seagulls, flying in the air
Nature's wonders are found everywhere
Minks running along the shore
Canadian Geese, and there's so much more
The Great Blue Heron Bob, waiting for a bite
The sun showing beauty, in its amazing light
Clouds in the sky, can be almost anything
Just on a Nature Walk, to see what it'll bring
A dragonfly dancing before my eyes
Several others join in, they come in every size
A butterfly on a flower, that is on the ground
Everywhere I look, Nature's work can be found
The sun shining on the beauty that is there
My camera finger clicking so that I can share
A Nature Walk means everything to me
As I take in the beauty of everything I see
To see and feel Nature's beauty is a great feeling
Nature's Magic
© by Bud Lemire on June 30, 2005
I love the smell of cut grass, after the rain
Flowing through my nostrils, right into my brain
I love a cool wind, when it's a nice breeze
Touching me so gently, as it blows the leaves on the trees
I love to see a chipmunk, scurry across the lawn
And to see the beauty, in a bright pink dawn
To wake up in the morning, and right before my eyes
Is a colorful picture, in the early morning sunrise
To walk along the harbor, and see the Canadian geese
To know that life goes on, and wonders never cease
The beauty of the clouds, way up in the sky
So magical and soul touching, seen before your eye
To hear the birds singing, each a different song
Up in the trees or the air, as you walk along
After a good rainfall, a rainbow's a sight to see
All the colors blended together, in life's mystery
Can you smell the lilac, coming to your nose
Or is it possibly another flower, a ruby red rose
Beauty can be seen, anywhere you go
It's Nature's Magic, to touch upon your soul
On A Summer Day
© by Bud Lemire on June 5, 2012
Nothing makes me feel as good as on a summer day
Warm sun shining down as the birds fly away
Butterflies and dragonflies fly around above
The feel of joy is everywhere, and I feel the love
All the creatures take part in this special day
Every one of them does it in their own way
The birds are singing, branch to branch they go
The butterflies are flying high, some are flying low
The sailboats are sailing, the clouds are rolling by
Up in the air, you can hear the Seagulls cry
People on their way to the Beach for some fun
A beautiful summer day just right for everyone
The Yellow Warbler is singing such a lovely song
A response from his mate, doesn't take too long
The Brown Thrasher is hunting for some food to eat
While the sun is beaming, I sure can feel the heat
A Swan is out on the water, I see it come around
A Robin runs nearby, he is on the ground
I ride over the bridge, and enjoy the island scene
On A Summer Day, everything looks green
I enjoy the beauty of summer and all that is around us
Orange, Yellow, & Red
© by Bud Lemire on Oct 17, 2019
As the leaves fall upon its Earthly bed
They form the colors of Orange, yellow, and red
Multi-colored leaves upon the ground
A place where Autumn is found
I look for the changing colors everywhere
At certain times, it's just not there
In other places where I am lead
I see plenty of orange, yellow, and red
In some places it is in between
A little yellow mixed in with green
Some places turn red right away
So bright and beautiful on a sunny day
I believe it depends upon the tree
On which color their leaf will be
Some don't change colors at all
Their leaves don't even fall
Some places don't even see this season
Where they are located, is the reason
As the leaves fall upon its Earthly bed
They form the colors of Orange, Yellow, and Red
Those Autumn colors are so beautiful to see. I love it when
the season is at its peak and you can see so many colors
among the trees. But if you don't see them at just the right
time, the rain will come along with the wind and blow the
leaves right off of the tree.
Out On The Island
© by Bud Lemire on July 13, 2011
Out on the island is where I love to be
On a warm summer day I can let my spirit roam free
Listen to the birds as they fly from tree to tree
While the butterflies fly in circles all around me
The dragonflies are dancing in the air
Seagulls fly overhead when I am there
The Brown Thrasher searches for food in the grass
He watches me cautiously as I walk pass
The Yellow Warbler sings a song nearby
I focus in on where he is with my eye
He comes a little closer in curiosity
While my camera zooms in to capture him in the tree
A Kingfisher snacks on a fish that he just caught
Reminds me of the last fish that I bought
It tasted so good, I know how he feels
To have one of those tasty fish meals
I see a sandpiper on a rock as I walk along the shore
And a sailboat on the horizon, who could ask for more
The sun shining down in a certain spot
And swimmers in the water, because it sure is hot
Out on the island is where I love to be
My soul is much happier when it's flowing free
No worries at all, I can just be me
Caught up in the moment with everything I see
Out on Aronson Island is where I love to be. Birds, butterflies, & dragonflies. Frogs! It's just a beautiful place to spend time at. I've been going out there since I was able to walk and even though I miss my childhood days and how they had it before...they did a great job of fixing it up and maintaining it to the way it looks today. I try not to miss a day without going out there to see my friends of nature.
Snow
Was Falling

Snow
was falling to the ground
Upon
a face a frown was found
Don’t
feel so bad that Winter’s here
It’s
not forever so don’t you fear
I
know it gets so very cold
And
it seems harder when you’re old
The
sun will shine again
For
you my dear friend
I
know the wind is strong
But
every season has its song
If
you listen you will hear
And
you won’t need to shed a tear
I
know people who stay active every season
Into
sports and are always happy with a reason
Each
time of the year brings something new
For
me, each year a pleasant surprise comes through
I
never know what it’ll be
Until
the time it reaches me
Something
unexpected, yet so wonderful to receive
Could
be anything, and every year I believe
I
am blessed to enjoy good in every day
In
every season that comes my way
Snow
was falling to the ground
Upon
my face a smile was found
I
am blessed to have such wonderful family and friends,
and people who truly love and care for me. I thank them for
being around in all seasons, through sun, rain, snow,
and
so much more. Thank you so very much!

Snow Was Falling
© by Bud Lemire on Dec 30, 2020
Snow was falling, in the city
Many thought, it looked pretty
One young woman thought a Snow Angel would be nice
Others knew that following, would be ice
Watch the elderly, so they won't slip
They could easily, break their hip
Ice Skaters love it, and love to skate
Shanty town hoped, they had the right bait
Let's make a snowman, big and tall
And a snow fort, with a big wall
Let's make some tunnels, in the snow
I'm King Of The Hill, and you must go
Memories of going down the hill at the park
Watch that tree, or you'll leave a mark
Those were the days that we recall
As we watch and see all the snow fall
A snowball almost hit me in the face
Good thing I ducked into another place
Oh yes, the days of the snowfall are so pretty
As they fell quietly and peacefully, upon the City
I wrote this as the snow fell. Living in a place
where it snows during the Winter months, can
be enjoyable, but it also comes with more work.
But when you have grown up in such a place.
You come to accept it and enjoy the beauty and
the fun of having it snow. Of course you also
have so many great memories.
Snownado
© by Bud Lemire on Feb 28, 2024
When the wind blows the snow, in a whirlwind around
It's called a Snownado, a tornado on the winter ground
It blows the snow, all over everywhere
Look out your window, you can see it there
A snow devil that is going around
Blowing snow wherever it's found
When a big gust of wind, blows the snow very strong
It's when we hear old man Winter, singing his song
The newly fallen snow is blowing away
To a new place entirely, where it will stay
Snow layered on top of each pile
That is the way of the Wintry style
Flakes piled up, on top of another one
It keeps on flying, until the Snownado is done
If you stand where it'll blow
You'll get whipped with that snow
So stay warm, and away from the wind that blows
Keep your body warm, even with your red nose
I've seen a snownado out my window.
It was a small one, and I'm sure you've
seen them as well.
Snowy White Owl
© by Bud Lemire on May 9, 2018
It was like any other day
It happened on the fifth of May
I was on the Aronson Island, to the shore
Yet on this day, there so much more
I spotted something, closer to shore
A white head, yet I had to see more
I grabbed my camera, and used the zoom
Not too close, it needed the room
A Snowy White Owl, what a sight to see
It was looking around, and watching me
Its head went almost, all the way around
As it sat there staring, right there on the ground
I tried to get closer, a different angel to get
It took off in flight, but it was Seagulls it met
Back to the shelter of trees it flew
Not far from the lake, that was a pretty blue
I took a video, and more pictures too
A voice inside me said “Bud, it's looking at you”
Since that day, it seemed easy to find
On a boat, a building, and even a Shopko sign
It was a special day for me when I saw the Snowy
White Owl. I was just looking at Owls online, and
thinking, “I would love to get a picture of an owl.”
Well, someone was listening, because there it was,
and I saw. They are amazing creatures, and look so
unreal with they way look and move. I'm so happy
I had the opportunity to see one and capture it with
my camera in pictures and videos.
The Song Of September
© by Bud Lemire on Sept 10, 2011
As the day moved along
I thought about a September song
Warm days with some cooler nights
Sunrise, sunset, some amazing sights
The end of summer, Fall is on the way
But it's a good season to enjoy every day
The trees start to change color too
And looks beautiful against the sky of blue
The birds sing their last song before heading south
The acorn squash testes good in your mouth
Warmed apple pie topped with vanilla ice cream
Makes for a dessert lovers' dream
A sail boat on the water with a pink sunset scene
While off in the distance the trees are so green
A Brown Thrasher searches for food for its young
While listening to a September Song being sung
So many things you can remember
When you sing the song of September
The weather gets cooler, but still feels so nice.
The leaves start changing colors.
The sunsets and sunrises move into different places.
Nature gets ready for the cooler season as Autumn approaches.
Spring Like Day
© by Bud Lemire on Feb 19, 2017
It's a Spring like day
Yet it's February I say
Spring is on its way
Before that, snow may come and stay
Mother Nature is such a tease
Father Time is down on his knees
While warmer weather is here
Won't be long, until Spring time cheer
The puddles are so big I know
They came from all the melted snow
Reflections in each water spot
They are in the photos I got
I was over dressed yesterday
When Spring like weather came our way
Ice Shacks, with water on the ice
On this Spring like day, it sure was nice
I think temperature was fifty eight
All I know is, it sure felt great
Even with tennis shoes , I sure got wet
But it was sixty eight photos, that I did get
It was indeed a beautiful Spring like day here
in the Upper Peninsula – Escanaba, Michigan
yesterday. I enjoyed every moment of my walk.
Springtime Cheer
© by Bud Lemire on March 25, 2006
Time is the Spring
Hear the robins sing
The snow's almost all melted away
And longer is the light of day
The return of the Canadian Goose
At the Golf course, they're on the loose
Feel it everywhere
Spring is in the air
Spring's a good sign for every Yooper
Warmer weather is coming, and it's super
The trees get their leaves back
And we have a Spring Fever attack
The white and yellow is replaced by the green
While colorful flowers add to the scene
Bicycle riders prepare for the journey to ride
Hibernators come out to enjoy the outside
A garden planted, a seed is put in
A new season to grow, a new chapter begins
Cherish the beauty this time of year
Take in the pleasure of some Springtime Cheer
Springtime In Da U.P.
© by Bud Lemire on May 2, 2018
Nothing is better, when you listen and hear
Da birds of da U.P., singing their Springtime cheer
Several are coming back, from their migration south
Starting a new family, feeding the little ones by mouth
The ice has melted, and buds are sprouting
A great time to enjoy, a Springtime outing
The little black flies, are flying everywhere
In swarms, they always seem to take over the air
Soon, the grass will be green
Until then, yellow is seen
I love to hear, the birds up in a tree
Their songs, always mean so much to me
Even the squirrels and chipmunks, are scurrying around
And the rabbits, are hopping all over the ground
The Geese and the Ducks, flying here and there
Of course the Seagulls, can be found everywhere
Buds in the trees, some leaves will be green
A great time to enjoy, such a beautiful scene
Springtime is great, when you're in da U.P.
So much beauty, and so very much to see
Springtime in da U.P. Is indeed a wonderful time
of the year. The the start of things changing from
cold to warm. New families starting for the creatures
we share this planet with. The ice is gone, and we see
the blue water. We can shed our coats for something
lighter to wear. Oh yes, I love Springtime in da U.P.
Summer Song
© by Bud Lemire on Aug 28, 2004
If someone were to ask me, what makes a summer song
I'd say all things on earth, being exactly where they belong
The trees with their leaves, and their branches held so high
The birds flying above, and the clouds up in the sky
The grass so green, standing on the ground
Butterflies in a garden, whenever they are found
A squirrel in a backyard, or climbing up a tree
The sun shining down, is a summer song for me
Blue skies behind white clouds, oh what a sight to see
Waves upon the shore, keeps beckoning to me
Boats upon the water, going off for a cruise
The summer song I'm hearing, there's no way I can lose
Rain pouring down, on a dark and windy day
Lightning flashing with thunder, upon the shades of gray
Splashing through the puddles, raindrops falling down
Pedaling my bicycle, through a Northern Michigan town
Listen to the summer song, nature has a way
To harmonize with all good things, to make a special day
Sun Shining Down
© 2003 by Bud Lemire
Sun shining down, upon my head
Those who are sleeping, get out of bed
Don't you miss, this beautiful day
Before you know, it's gone away
The flowers and trees, wait for you
The birds take in, an overhead view
The squirrels watch, and see you there
As nature smiles, because they care
The butterflies, fly all around
But they don't make a sound
The bees are buzzing, by their nest
And your spirit, knows what is best
A ladybug lands, and flies again
The touch of a smile, from a friend
Sun shining down, upon my head
I am so happy, I got out of bed
When the sun is shining, it's always
best to get out of bed and enjoy the day
Sundog
© by Bud Lemire on Dec 14, 2017
Sundog, a rainbow in the sky
Winter's beauty, seen to our eye
On the horizon, you just might see
Something magnificent, I'm sure you'll agree
Parhelion is another word to use
Sundog is the word I'd choose
Who would have thought, on a Winter's day
That we'd see a rainbow, so special in every way
Two sundogs make a halo, I bet that's a sight
I bet it shows up great, in the sun light
You don't often see it, but you never know
When a sundog will most likely show
Sundog? I wonder if it could bark
High above, while I walk through the park
Take another picture, to show your friends
Because it'll disappear, because that is how time ends
Sundog, a rainbow in the sky
Winter's beauty, seen to our eye
I saw a rainbow in the sky on one Winter's day.
I didn't realize it was called a sundog. I was
just happy to see it, no matter what season it was.
Beauty is one thing I look for in many things.
The Beautiful Butterfly
© July
16, 2008 by Bud Lemire
Silently
I asked myself, where could they be?
When
before my eyes, one zipped in front of me
Later
that night on Aronsons Island, I asked once more
And
one zipped right by, just like it did before
It
danced around and landed on the tree
I
grabbed my camera and it didn’t fly from me
The
beauty was amazing, as my camera snapped away
But
some roller skaters came, and I didn’t think it would stay
One
skater brushed it aside, as if it was a pest
But
it remained dancing, and I felt I was blessed
To
be able to see, and enjoy the beauty of
This
Beautiful Butterfly, filled me up with love
Sunset
was approaching, darkness soon would be here
I
look up in the tree, and the dancing butterfly was near
I
silently looked up and gave thanks for the time
For
letting me capture the beauty, with the camera of mine
I
always look for beauty, in everything I see
Usually
I find it, but that could be just me
I
put it on my computer, and decide what to do
I
print out the very best, to share them all with you
The Beauty
© by Bud Lemire on Feb 27, 2012
I look upon the beauty, everywhere I go
The colors and the lighting, and what touches the soul
I watch at every angle, to see what I can see
In every direction, and how it effects me
Where is the sun shining, what is the color there
The best that it's hitting, and which ones I can share
I realize every time I'm out there, and I take a shot
The beauty that surrounds me, and everything I got
The trees and their shapes, the clouds up in the sky
Are saying “Pay Attention, and open up your eye”
Capturing it all, is the best that I can do
The beauty that is there, that beholds all that is true
The shapes and the sizes, the distance just as well
All come together, and they have a lot to tell
They speak loudly, if you listen you will hear
Put all things in focus, as they whisper in your ear
What are they saying, do you really know
Listen with your eyes, the beauty they will show
I let my eyes tell me, is this a good shot
I usually delete it, if by chance it's not
But mostly I pick the best ones, that my eyes see
All things I've taken shots of, so you'll see The Beauty
I found that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
I have taken pictures that many liked, and I never expected that.
I have taken some that I thought many would like, and they didn't.
Beauty is found everywhere, if you have the sight to see what is there.
The Butterfly Garden
© by Bud Lemire on May 25, 2009
In The Butterfly Garden, butterflies come and go
I wonder dear woman, what they really know
Do they know of the love you placed everywhere
As you tended the garden, so they could come there
Oh the beauty they show as they flutter about
Markings so beautiful that I want to cry out
Into a song, I feel I should sing
As I take in each story painted on their wing
The creator of life designed a wonderful creature
With wings of art, what a beautiful feature
I wonder if each wing is the same
Or if each butterfly has a name
All I know is they flutter about with a mind of their own
They resemble each other as if they were a clone
Maybe there's more than what meets the eye
Of the magnificent beauty of the great butterfly
It flies with a flutter, in and out of the garden you made with your love
Fluttering about in a dance of a ritual that takes it above
Oh to dance with you, with your wings opened for me
In The Butterfly Garden with you is the place I long to be
Dedicated to the gardener of the Butterfly Garden,
Linda, who has done a wonderful job with it
The First Day Of The Dragonfly
© by Bud Lemire on May 26, 2005
It is the first day of the dragonfly
First time this year that it flew by
It danced around as I rode along
While on my bicycle I sang a song
"Dragonfly, so mystical and free"
"Dancing in the air, all around me"
"Tell me, what is it that you know"
"That holds my interest as you come and go"
Do you eat other insects in the air
And do you know more than we're aware
So many questions I want to ask
To make this special moment last
"Dragonfly, Dragonfly, flying all around"
"Why is it that you make no sound"
"And if you do, I haven't heard"
"Your language isn't spoken in the human word"
Oh tell me, what do you do at night
When no one sees you in the light
How do you think, what's on your mind
How do you see, and are you blind
"Dragonfly, so mystical and free"
"Dancing in the air, all around me"
"Tell me, what is it that you know"
"That holds my interest as you come and go"
The First Of May
© by Bud Lemire on May 1, 2013
The Yellow Rumped Warbler, and the Merganser Duck
Talk about my happiness, and a photographer's luck
Two Great Blue Herons, Bob's Cousins I presume
On the first of May, maybe Bob will come soon
Swans in the water, enjoying feeding time
While I zoom in, with this camera of mine
A beautiful day, and the first of May
Warmer temperatures are coming closer, every day
The fish flies are out, but they won't stay too long
And soon I will hear, the Yellow Warbler's song
The Robins are already, singing a beautiful tune
I look forward to this month, and the month of June
A Tern flies by, on the shore nearby
It sure has, such a very loud cry
Two Merganser Ducks, with the bad hair day
Dip in the water, they love to play
This May seems colder, than years in the past
But this cool season, won't always last
The sun is out, on this beautiful day
The wind is blowing, on The First of May
It was indeed a wonderful day when I wrote
this poem. I always love it when the birds
return to the area in Spring, and I see so
many appear, hoping to make their summer
a good one here in the Upper Peninsula of
Michigan. Thank God for birds.
*Fish Flies – black gnats(Midges) that fly in swarms during May and some of June

The Fishing Hole
© by Bud Lemire on Feb 23, 2014
He had a special bobber for his fishing pole
And he used it down at his fishing hole
He was going to catch a good fish
While there he would hope and wish
He would like to catch a fish while there
But if he didn't, he really didn't care
He watched the birds chirping in the tree
And gazed all around at all he could see
A chipmunk running across the grass
He sure was moving so very fast
The line went down, he had a bite
He reeled it in, oh what a sight
It was a good sized perch on his line
And he thought “And it's all mine”
A Kingfisher from a tree took a dive
And caught a fish and it was still alive
The sun was shining, the sky was blue
It was a warm day, with nothing to do
So he decided to grab his fishing pole
And was so glad he went to the Fishing Hole
Sometimes it is more than just fishing,
it's taking in everything around you
The Hummingbird Moth
© by Bud Lemire on Jan 4, 2018
Right before my eyes, what did I see
It wasn't a Hummingbird, in front of me
I looked again, what could it be
It was a Hummingbird Moth, flying by me
It had a long tongue, tasting the nectar of each flower
I must have watched it, for over an hour
“What an amazing creature,” came to my mind
As I watched its long tongue, start to unwind
Curled up in flight, released in the next flower
As I kept watching, too fast went the hour
I took pictures, from every angle I could
So I could share them with others, as only I would
That long tongue, reminded me of a long straw
In my mind's eye, that is what I saw
It must come in handy, to have a tongue like that
But you'd have to watch your diet, so you wouldn't get fat
I gazed at the Hummingbird Moth, and inside my mind
“It seems in each day, there is so much we can find”
I felt drawn in to the moment, as I watched it fly
So many beautiful creatures, we can see with our eye
I've only seen the Hummingbird Moth twice so far. But I
took many pictures each time. It was amazing to watch
and not scare it away as it went about its search for the
flower with the nectar that would satisfy its appetite.
The
Kitty
© by Bud
Lemire on July 19, 2008
Young and
playful with so much energy
Innocent and new, and so
carefree
Exploring this new world with so much zest
Taking it
all in and doing his best
Under the furniture, up on the
chair
You’ll find this Kitty, everywhere
It won’t stop if
there’s more to explore
Expect the unexpected, because you’ll
get more
Going through the teething with his little
bite
So little yet, that he sure feels light
But he’ll grow
to be big, just like at that paw
From the size of it, he’ll
grown bigger than his Maw
With his appetite, he’ll
stop to eat from his dish
No doubt in time he’ll be thinking of
tuna fish
Will he sleep on or under the bed?
Or will he just
sleep on the floor instead?
Dreaming of the adventures
he’ll have as a cat
Exploring this world, wherever he’s
at
Letting out a roar, but a meow is heard
He spots a creature
with wings, it’s a bird
“So much to learn, so much
to know”
“But I’ll learn what I can as I grow”
“These
two-legged creatures have no paws like me”
“But the love they
give, is the best it can be”
The Little Hopper
© by Bud Lemire on Aug 20, 2004
As I was gazing out the window
Much to my surprise
There came a mini toad hopping
In front of my very eyes
Now maybe this is normal
If it happened to you
But I longed to see a toad
Before this season was through
I said a silent prayer
Deep within my soul
And there before my very eyes
Was a little hopping toad
It was on the concrete
Hopping over to the grass
Just the little hopper
Not moving very fast
It seems so very often
Our prayers are answered true
Connections of all souls with us
Just like the Little Hopper too
The Monarch
© by Bud Lemire on Aug 10, 2004
I see a Monarch butterfly every day
It flies quite close and then flies away
When this happens, it warms my heart
To know that nature is playing its part
The Monarch, so beautiful are its wings
Painted and so colorful, all that nature brings
Mother Nature paints the butterflies with her touch
Everyone should appreciate, just how very much
Everything plays it part, the flower and the tree
And I take the time, to enjoy all it means to me
It's like a magic garden, from something in a dream
Not to be taken for granted, it's more than it seems
The beauty of it all, seen before my eyes
Warms my heart and soul, a very pleasant surprise
As I see the Monarch every day
It flies very close, and then flies away

The
Sound Of Water
© by
Bud Lemire on Dec 6, 2008
Something
about the sound of water that does something to me
Peaceful
and relaxing, bringing me tranquility
An
oar in the water, paddling the boat away
Brings
a soothing feeling within my soul every day
Water
being poured into a glass is a sound I like
Waves
hitting the rocks as I pass by on my bike
In
the bath, as we move around in the tub
A
sound as comforting as a back rub
The
sound a dishcloth makes in the water in the sink
It
does something to me, at least that’s what I think
The
way some toilets flush, is a special sound
You
can find the sounds of water, all around
Pour
a glass of water and tell me what you hear
When
you Listen closely, water, so crystal clear
Something
for the soul, water’s good for you
So
take a drink today, it’s the healthy thing to do
Appreciate
the sounds around you, appreciate Water for all the good things it
does for you. So many people in some places have a hard time getting
water. We are fortunate to get it and enjoy it in every part of our
day as we do. So, Have a drink
The Sun
© by Bud Lemire on June 11, 2012
I always smile at the sun
It's really great for everyone
It rises at the start of the day
And shines its light in every way
It warms the air with its light
Until it sets and it becomes night
I find for some it may be too hot
But being a photographer, I can take a great shot
I look for where the sun will be
And look around at everything I see
I'm always amazed at what the sun will show
Upon the land, both high and low
To realize what it would be like without the sun
Total darkness wouldn't be good for anyone
The sun has a way of lifting the soul
Making us more complete, making us whole
The sun can change the way we feel
It's rays gives hope and helps to heal
I recommend to all to get out and enjoy the sun
Because it's not just for me, but for everyone
A sunny warm day, butterflies all around, dragonflies flying as well,
People bicycling, lovers walking hand in hand in the park, boats sailing,
people fishing, people swimming, and so much more on a day with the sun
The Tree
© by Bud Lemire on March 16, 2003
Beautiful and majestic, there stands the tree
Branches outstretched, for all the world to see
Noble and proud, of its roots and standing tall
Leaves changing colors, in the season of the Fall
Flowers that are blossoming, in the springtime
Green is the color of the spruce, and of the pine
The weeping willow, with its branches hanging low
All the evergreens, with their emerald glow
The poplars, with leaves the shapes of the heart
The citrus, that has that wonderful citrus tart
The Apple, Cherry, Plum, sure are very sweet
The edible nuts of the beech, some find good to eat
The palm, that holds the coconut and the date
The sweet syrup of the maple, tastes good to the palate
The cone bearing firs, the timber of the oaks too
The fragrance of the cedars, has a spell on you
The great sequoia, with its redwood big and tall
Watch out where you're standing, if this giant should fall
Nothing is quite as lovely, as the elements of The Tree
With its branches reaching out, just for you and me
This next poem is not the same one you just read
The Tree
© by Bud Lemire on March 7, 2015
Nobody knows, the heart of the tree
So we should pass by, and let it be
It shelters us from the rain
The tree comforts us in pain
The leaves blow, the wind pushes through
It's like they are dancing, so beautiful too
Look at the trunk, look at the bark
And their silhouettes, long after it's dark
So much beauty, can be seen in a tree
Touching the heart in you, of all nature can be
Trees in a beautiful scene
Branches spread and in between
Beautiful tree, with your branches held high
I admire your beauty, as I walk by
Your shape from every angle, is beautiful in all
And you're at your peak, when your leaves fall
I see you, everywhere I go
I take in the beauty, and I know
In everything, and all things I see
I'm thankful for the presence, of The Tree
What would we do without the beauty of the
Tree. I know I am greatly thankful for their
presence. For I love seeing trees at our Park,
and out on the Island, and all around this city.
The Whispers Of Nature
© by Bud Lemire on May 15, 2012
I walk in silence as the birds fly around
The butterflies flutter and land on the ground
The whispers of nature are calling to me
So calming to the soul, a feeling so free
A chipmunk runs towards me and then scurries away
A Yellow Warbler appears, which makes my day
There up above sits a blackbird in a tree
It looks around and then down at me
A butterfly follows me wherever I go
I wonder what does a butterfly know
What are birds saying in their language I heard
It sounds really nice, but I can't understand a word
The sun shining down on this moment in time
Nature comes alive, which is a wonderful sign
Whispers are heard of all things that will be
Beauty is seen in the shape of the tree
You'll see the flowers and the colors they show
And you'll feel a warmth of an inner glow
Walk into nature, quietly if you can
You'll feel a connection of a much greater plan
The feeling is so wonderful to be with nature
and watching all the creatures as they go about their day
The Window To The Lake
© by Bud Lemire on May 30, 2004
There’s a window to the lake
Where there’s a view that I take
The life of nature, that’s found there
A scene rewarding, when I stare
Canadian geese and the red winged blackbird
And many others, from what I heard
The squirrels playing, in the grass
Chipmunks look in at me, as they go pass
The sun is shining, down upon this scene
Of sailboats in the distance, and grass so green
The seagulls fly in, to this place
So many creatures, make it their base
The branches of the tree hang low
And gives this view an inner glow
A beautiful scene is what I see
When looking out the window before me
I took care of Matt. Arlene was his wife.
They had a really nice view out back on Lake Shore Drive.
That is what inspired me to write this poem.
The Year Of The Dragonflies
© by Bud Lemire on Aug 9, 2004
It's the year of the Dragonflies
They pass in front of my eyes
Right down the sidewalk, they're following me
There's more lately, than I ever did see
They seemed to be waiting for me, as I rode my bike
As I arrive at where they were, they take off in flight
They would then dance, dance in the air
As if to let me know, of their presence there
I found it amazing, as I rode along
I counted many, as I sang my song
All along the sidewalk, they awaited me
They would then take off, for me to see
It seemed they may have, had something to say
And it was in only the Dragonfly way
I wondered if they were in touch with each other
Communicating about me coming, with one another
I'm sure it must be, the year of the Dragonflies
Dancing in the air, before my very eyes
Things With Wings
© by Bud Lemire on June 25, 2006
It’s everyday that I see things with wings
Birds and butterflies, all the pretty things
Dragonflies, and the bumblebees
Planes flying overhead, is what one sees
Bugs with wings of every size
That fly right into my eyes
Causing me to be temporarily blind
Things with wings is what I find
Butterflies, so colorful are their wings
And the birds, and the songs they sing
Spread their wings, and see them fly
Gliding above, so low, so high
I once saw something, I never saw before
A blackbird chasing a butterfly, and more
Two hummingbirds in a mating dance
So amazing to see, if you get the chance
Our airborne friends are nice to see
And other creatures too, mean the world to me
What would we do without them here
Those Blooming Flowers
© by Bud Lemire on March 8, 2003
It's been a long rainy winter, and I really long
For those blooming flowers, and birds that sing their song
To see all the daisies, and the daffodils
And those dandelions, that cover all the hills
To see the rhododendrons, and the upcoming crocus
Brings me closer to nature, when I'm out of focus
The tulips and the lilies, beauty for our eyes
And to see the fluttering, of the butterflies
The azalea and the hyacinth, for our eyes to see
Not to be neglected, by the buzzing bumblebee
It sure does make me happy, to see the flowers in the Spring
Makes me whistle a happy tune, makes my heart sing
The iris and the pansies, and the primrose
Smells of flowers in the air, right before our nose
The geraniums, the lilacs, oh what a smell
They got me dancing, puts me in a spell
The petunias, the fox gloves, and the forget-me-nots
And all those blooming flowers, in the flower pots
Queen Anne's Lace, the oxeye daisies, and the fireweed
All share in nature's beauty, that started from a seed
What a special presence, that's given to us all
A bouquet of flowers, to keep us standing tall
To Be A Bird
© by Bud Lemire on March 25,2006
Spreading my wings, flying high and free
Carry me away to my destiny
A worm for you and one for me
A bird's eye view makes it easy to see
Let's take a rest
Here upon the nest
And sing a happy song of cheer
Thankful for what we have here
Ruffled feathers, spirit be calm and in control
Float upon the air, light as the soul
High among the clouds
Far above the crowds
Gliding on a gentle breeze
Wings moving with such ease
On a solo flight
No flock in sight
To be here in the air
Without a worry or a care
You can't find a word
Of how it feels to be a bird
I always wondered as I
watched, how it feels to
be spreading their wings
and flying off in the air.
Tsunami

Over on the ocean's floor, what can it be
People run for cover, it's the tsunami
Did a volcano erupt, or an earthquake spring
You just never know, what the elements will bring
Huge waves hitting the coast
Damaging things you love the most
Something's awaken on the ocean bed
Those who know, have already fled
Japanese in origin, but can happen anywhere
Guaranteed to give, everyone quite a scare
East coast, west coast, look out!
It travels the ocean's route
Oh, can't you see
It's the tsunami!
Run! Run!! Run!!!
Until it is done
Universal Translator
© by Bud Lemire on April 13, 2015
As I walked and listened to the birds
I wished that I could understand their words
Just to know what they had to say
As I listened to them every day
Listening to a song that they sing
To me it's a wonderful feeling they bring
Just like all the other creatures too
What if we understood what they say and do
Like a show I use to watch on TV
A Universal Translator was the key
Each planet they went to, their language known
Came to us in English, every word and tone
What if we had one to use on the birds
And other creatures to understand their words
The words we say would translate too
They would understand words from you
Just think how well we'd get along
If we understood the words to their song
Just thinking how well it would be to sit
down and talk to a bird in a tree and have
him/her understand me, and be able to
understand what it was saying.
Why Take A Picture Of Me?
© by Bud Lemire on Nov 1, 2017
“Why take a picture of me?” said The Butterfly
Because you are so beautiful to the eye
“But I am just a Butterfly, nothing more”
Your wings are paintings, and you soar
“Why take a picture of me?” a Rabbit asked of me
Because it's your beauty, that I see
“But I am just a Rabbit, nothing more”
When you are hopping, it's too beautiful to ignore
“Why take a picture of me?” a Robin asked of me
Because I love your song, and beauty is mine to see
“But I am just a Robin, it's all I have ever been”
I know, but you are so very special, my friend
“Why take a picture of me, said the Sun at Sunset
It was at Sunrise, that we had first met
It's because of your colors, and your light
The beauty we see, when we take in your sight
As two Teenage skateboarders, roll on by
They ask the question of why
“Why take a picture of us?”
All I ask is for your parents trust
For I see beauty in each human being
That beauty is worth being seen
Every now and then I get some nasty feedback
on my photos. A recent one was that I took a
picture of their son and his girlfriend, who were
skateboarding down the sidewalk. There was
nothing wrong with it. Yet the Mother felt uneasy
that I had taken it and shown it on Facebook.
