Genealogy

Genealogy

After hearing from a David LeMire of Texas. He was looking for relatives in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. He called and Mom answered, and was a little unsure of who this person was from Texas who had the same last name. He also got a hold of my Uncle Arthur Lemire in Marquette, and sent us a letter.

After reading this letter and getting the phone call, it had me thinking “Who are my ancestors, and where did they come from.”

It was 1990 and Dad was in the Hospital and later in the Nursing Home before passing. I asked him. He said all he remembered was they smuggled moonshine down from Canada.

When I was a little boy, I met a little girl at the Park and her name was Mary. She told me her last name was LeMire, and I said my name was too. She asked her Mom who I was, and her Mom couldn't answer. I had asked my Mom too, without an answer as to if they were relatives.

I started my genealogy and tracking down ancestors. Going to the Family Library at the Latter Day Saints. I met many wonderful friends there, and met many relatives as well. Mom was able to fill in many names on her side of the family.

My ancestors came from Quebec Canada and were French Canadian.

One night while being stuck on where to look next for information, I had a dream and this lady in the sky told me not to give up. Somehow I knew her to be my Grandmother Alma.

After that, everything seemed to fall into place. Read my other blogs to find out more.

An Angel Is Born

© 1998 by Bud Lemire

On January 9th 1965, Momma Rose gave birth

To a special little girl, who began life on earth

She was destined to be, a treasure to hold dear

With her Grandmother's song, playing in her ear

It wasn't always easy for her, traveling down life's road

She worked very hard, and carried a heavy load

Parents Don and Rose, were happy she was in their life

And thought some day, she'd make someone a wonderful wife

She had her share of loves, trials she'd endure

Until that special man came, then she was sure

Mark Hudson was a Navy man, but there was love

And a family was started, with blessings from above

They both worked hard, to support the family they started

And the love they shared, never strayed and never parted

I entered her life, in the year of 1998

She needed help with her ancestry, and would appreciate

Any help that could be given

To connect the dead to the living

I'm Bud Lemire, and have researched our name

I had gathered families, who carried the same

I looked and I found, her ancestry real fast

By traveling through records, and into the past

She was so happy, having been bitten by the bug

Working on her ancestry, she wanted to give me a hug

There's more to the story, this much is fact

In 1992 I wrote to her cousin, but she didn't write back

While looking through her Aunt's box, they found that very same letter

That was sent there, and this made Karen feel very much better

It was like finding a gold mine, she wanted to jump and shout

This generous cousin, who knew what genealogy was all about

Through letters and phone calls, we shared stories of our life

We had so much in common, our happy times, our strife

We became much closer in spirit, much closer in heart

She became my Soul-Sister, though we were miles apart

This Angel who guides me, of this I must say

I'm so happy that she, sent her love my way

I've Earned my Wings, Ancestral spirits help from above

But she made it much easier, she sent me her love

So as I think back, to the day of her birth

I appreciate her presence, on this great planet Earth

For I know I've been blessed, with a special friend who is true

I know I can overcome anything, because Karen...I have you

I wrote to her Cousin Jeannette in Vancouver Washington.

But I never got a response. Years later, at the bottom of

her Aunt's chest, was that very same letter. I had started

that lineage for Jeannette, but never heard back. I had one

gap to fill in, and once I did, I gave it to Karen.

This is for my Cousin Karen Lemire-Hudson

Angel Spreads Her Wings

© 2001 by Bud Lemire

With family, you've returned to your native land

To work on your hopes, your dreams, a future plan

Your life has changed, in so many ways

Time passes quickly, as if you're in a daze

Close cousins are near, one you almost lost

You realize the value, and what it must have cost

Others stand on shaky ground, but they come out okay

Keeping them in check, they'll get through day by day

You feel the weight within, even though you care

And still you have inside, love you always share

You've felt and heard so much, as you move ahead

Inside stories carry emotions, many things were said

As you age another year, and older you will turn

Just like the rest of us, it's another lesson you learn

For once again my Angelic cousin, you've spread your wings again

And made me realize all over, you're such a special friend

Though the wires connect us, and you are too far

I'm always reminded of your love, in a twinkling of a star

Your light shines even brighter, as it's shining down on me

And we share a special closeness, that all is meant to be

A vision and a dream, is waiting for you

It'll all be worth it, when your journey's through

Always remember, I'll always be your guide

To help you in this journey, always by your side

Though the soul is invisible, it's with you every day

You knew this already, but still I had to say

You are so wonderful, I love you with all my heart

And in my life, you'll always play a special part

This was written for my Cousin Karen Lemire-Hudson,

who has been a great friend and wonderful cousin.

Ernie, it was your time to go

But it’s never too late to let you know
Just how much we’ll all miss you
Dear friend of mine, and cousin too

You lived here at the Tower, it was your home
Often you and Joyce would stop to read my poem
I don’t know if you knew it was me
That wrote all the poems that you would see

You called me Buddy, sometimes your words were rough
But I threw them back at you, enough was enough
I remember when I first met you, I knew your grandparent’s surname
My Great Great Grandfather’s name was exactly the same

Beauchamp “The Beautiful Field” comes from St.Polycarpe
It’s where the Flat Rock Beauchamps got their start
Ernie’s Grandfather Treffle also came from there
I traced our ancestors with my Savior Faire

Now he’s with those that had come here before
Young and strong again, At Heaven’s Door
I can see his face and his wonderful smile
As his spirit dances down the Heavenly aisle

Ernie my cousin and friend, in the Spirit World

with the Angels and the spirits of our ancestors. Thank you

so much for blessing us with your presence here on Earth.

So glad I had the chance to meet and know you. May the

light of life carry you through your continuing journey

in Heaven. ~Buddy~

Birth Of An Angel

© 1999 by Bud Lemire

On October 4th 1956, there was born a baby girl

Brenda's parents were happy, she was brought into this world

She had the gift, inside a heart of gold

With love to share, as the future would unfold

Brenda had her share of problems, just like any other

She overcame them all, with the love of her Mother

Many years unravel, and she met that special man

She moved away from Minnesota, and then moved back again

They had been blessed, with a special little girl

Filling that void in their lives, she was as precious as a pearl

They named her Crystal, because she was shining like a gem

And she had lots of love, which she shared with them

She grew into a woman, a beauty like no other

They were also, watching over Brenda's younger brother

Moving ahead into the future, while working on her genealogy

She was stuck on one part of her family tree

This was the same place, where my grandparents were

These are my relatives, I was absolutely sure!

It had started with Norma Wasmer, searching on the Net

Joe Lemere told her I could help, and it was a safe bet

Norma passed this onto Laura, and then she wrote to me

And the cry for my assistance, soon turned into a plea

Laura, & Norma descend from Hercules, my grandfather's brother

Laura was in touch with Eleanor, a descendant of another

A Gaspard Lemier, another brother settling the North Dakota land

Brenda was writing her, and so our contact began

Brenda wrote me a letter, she had E-Mail and was online

From a friend's house, I E-Mailed her with a sign

A month later, E-Mail was hooked up for me

Cousins from all over, sent messages to see

Brenda became, a part of each and every day

I looked forward, to everything she had to say

And as the year passed on by, and came to an end

I felt very much closer, to this special cousin and friend

This one is about Brenda LEMIER - COOPER of Minnesota.

And the story told here is true, I am her cousin, my name is Bud Lemire.

Brenda has since passed, but I shall always cherish the memories of

a very special cousin who kept in touch with me and was a wonderful friend

as well. Thank you Brenda!

Census Taker

© by Bud Lemire on March 8, 2003

I am a Census Taker, I've written down your name

And in a special area, the place from which you came

If you immigrated, I've written down the year

And written down your age, and if you were born here

I've written down your street, and your house number

And your occupation, in a Mill of paper or lumber

I've written down your family, and who lived there too

Relatively speaking, I gave you a life review

I've taken down where you live, county and the state

And the township also, and who was your mate

I've written down your role, in the family life

The head of the household, a brother, sister, or a wife

Someone in the future, might wonder where you live

This will help them find you, with information that you give

It's up to me, to get everything down the best

And if you're from the east, and moved out to the west

I am a Census Taker, I've written down your name

And in a special area, the place from which you came

Your age and where you live, and what it is you do

So someone in the future, can easily find you

Cousins, Connected By Heart & Soul

© by Bud Lemire on Oct 15, 2022

Some have said, before we're born we get to choose our family

Whether you believe it or not, I know they mean the most to me

Parents, Grandparents, Brothers, Sisters, Nieces, Nephews, Uncles, Aunts, Cousins too

Years together, they are all there, to spend a lifetime with you

Climbing the Family Tree, is so much fun to do

Finding out how, each relative is related to you

First Cousin, Second Cousin, or maybe a Third

Which generation, now that is the word

How many times removed, can each one be

It's all part of, climbing the Family Tree

I bet there are many Cousin, that I don't know

I sure have met many, as the story will go

Some in person, and some online too

We became close friends, as some Cousins do

Growing up, Cousins were older than me

I find there are tons of them, on my Family Tree

Others are much younger, as each story goes

As you climb your Family Tree, it really grows

Branches are filled with Cousins everywhere

Why there's even one, reading this poem that I'll share

One of the biggest thrills of genealogy next to finding

out about your ancestors and who you descend from,

is finding so many Cousins who have the same interest.

Meeting them, and being in touch with them. They can

become quite close in so many ways. Friends that are

family. It's been so much fun. Thank you Cousins, for

not only being related, but for being a friend as well.

Diane

© by Bud Lemire on Sept 7, 2004

Oh Diane, you're a good friend to me

The care you put into, the Family History

You had some big boots to fill, and they're the right size

I knew you'd do a great job, and it was no surprise

Margaret and Pat, are smiling down on you

Because of all the helping, that it is you do

You strive to do the very best, helping others trace

Their ancestors in the family tree, to put in the proper place

Computers are no problem, the future is the key

On seeking out the past, that leads to you and me

You're patient with people, and you are so kind

And you appreciate, the ancestry people find

Your knowledge is your wisdom, you listen as others tell

Empathic to their stories, you feel them as well

You seem to understand, much more than people say

The guiding force of family, that's with us everyday

So much is stored in your mind, I'd like to take a look

But I'd never finish, it's like a never ending book

To see your friendly smile, a soul so filled with love

Leaves no doubt to me, you're guided from above

This is for the director of the Family History Library.

Diane Berragan, a Great friend of mine.

Don't Throw Them Out!

© By Bud Lemire on Nov 13, 2015

In the old photos, there may be a face

Or maybe more, that you can't place

An unknown relative in your family

Yet you don't know who they could be

You may think they mean nothing to you

But in fact, you really should know they do

What if there's a relative, who just might know

A name for each person, you wouldn't have to let them go

Maybe a cousin is doing the family tree

Might have an idea, of who it could be

It might be Aunt Sally, or Uncle Sam

Calling out to you saying, “you know who I am”

Don't throw them out

Let go of the doubt

There may just be

Someone knows your family

When looking through old photos, and you see a face

That is somebody, that you just can't seem to place

Even when you have the slightest of doubt

Someone might know, so don't throw them out

If you look at your old photos and don't know the people

in them. Don't throw them out. There may just be someone

who may be able to identify some of the people. It may seem

that they may not have much meaning because you don't know

who they are. Instead of throwing them out, ask if anyone else

would be interested in having them. Because once they are

thrown away, they can not be recovered ever again. Do the

wise thing, before taking the action of throwing them away,

ask around. Looking ahead, always label your pictures, so

that someone in the future won't be throwing away a picture

of you.

Flowers For Ja'Mie

© 1999 by Bud Lemire

It started in 1998, with a letter from her son

Searching for their ancestry, with help from anyone

From another cousin, the message passed to me

I looked through my Lemire Index, to see what I could see

I found their family, and responded right away

Then I heard from Ja'Mie, I had made her day

I told her about her cousin, a gentleman named Joe

And said that she should call him, to put in her hello

Ja'Mie did exactly what I said, so happy to be in touch

With another cousin, she thanked me very much

Over the next year, we've kept in touch with other

Exchanging our life's story, she is such a caring Mother

Sharing our worries, and problems that come from day to day

We became much closer, in a spiritual way

She always sends me flowers from the heart, to help me in my life

Giving me the strength, to overcome the strife

She's a special friend and cousin, always through and through

And I'm writing her this poem, because I love her too

I'm sending this message, filled with many hugs

I'm taking out the errors, so there won't be any bugs

For a person like you, that I'm happy to have known

For having you in my life, my inner self has grown

As you read this message, I hope you'll think of me

As your friendship guides me, wherever you will be

In life, in love, in Cousindry, and in friendship too

I send these flowers from my heart, especially for you

This is for my Cousin and friend, Ja'Mie who is also known

as Jeanne Lemire Payne. She was Ms Maine at one time.

Such a beautiful soul I was proud to call friend and so happy

she touched my life with her presence. Just like at the beginning,

at the end I received a letter from her son, telling me she had

passed away and was now in Heaven. I am sure she is enjoying

her time with all our ancestors there.

Following The Trail

© by Bud Lemire on June 20, 2013

Following the trail of our ancestor

Looking for information that will lead to more

Walking down every path that we find

Knowing in spirit, that they won't mind

In fact, we know they are near

All things in time, become clear

We know the route they had taken

A journey to the past, when we awaken

We know the places, where we should go

And it touches a place, deep in our soul

Getting in touch with Cousins everywhere

The information, that we're willing to share

Sharing information, comparing each note

Making sure no errors, in each one we wrote

Putting the picture to the name

Resemblances can often be the same

I love to find people, who are on their own trail

Off on the sea, of their genealogical sail

Looking for information, that will lead to more

Following the trail, of ancestors who came before

I've been climbing my Family Tree since 1990.

In that time, I have found many relatives, and it

has been great enjoyment in all that I have found.

Genealogy & Me

© by Bud Lemire in 1991

It was January 1990 when I started climbing my tree

A phone call and a letter was what started me

It started me asking questions, about some family news

Getting in touch with relatives, digging up lots of clues

In March, the death of my Dad was the biggest tragedy

With all the pain he had, at least he now was free

Then I was depressed awhile, of the information I lack

But then there was a dream one night, said I was on the right track

There was a woman's face in the sky, she looked old and oh so wise

I felt renewed to be researching all my family ties

Some say it was an ancestor's spirit, getting in touch with me

I took it as a sign, that all was meant to be

In the dream, I was following footprints in the snow

After the woman disappeared, I knew exactly where to go

Since that dream, no depression like before

All my researching powers, then began to soar

And something, that really is so true

I feel someone is guiding me, to do what I must do

Writing to many relatives, some I've never met

Was a highlight of my research , one I don't regret

I've learned about name changes, all within research

With much help from the library staff, at the LDS church

There's a monthly Society meeting, at the college of the bay

Interesting guest speakers, saying what they say

It's interesting fun doing research, like we do

Reading all about ancestors, finding out who is who

One thing to remember, when seeking your ancestors out

There may be many trails, but there's only one true route

And with these final words, I bid good luck to you

As you journey in the past, may good fortune be yours too

Genealogy Of The Soul

© by Bud Lemire on Jan 3, 2005

Genealogy of the soul is the feeling that no matter how distantly related

It gives you a wonderful feeling inside, as though you're elated

Let me tell you about genealogy of the soul

With each passing day researching, you grow

Gives you the feeling, that our ancestors that have passed before

Aren't really that far away, but just standing outside of the door

And we call out for their help, anytime

They're only too willing to help us, by crossing that line

They walk beside us, as we put together our pedigree

And give us clues, as to solving the family mystery

Family is still important, to them as it is to us

They do what they can, and we do what we must

Descendants separated through time, and scattered everywhere

Through divine intervention, are brought together to share

To share in the stories, to share in the lore

Of all of our relatives, who've walked here before

Looking at pictures, seeing resemblances in each face

Putting the names, into their rightful place

This is what I call Genealogy Of The Soul

It's relatively a special feeling, that you come to know

Being a genealogist is so rewarding. I love it!

Harvey

© by Bud Lemire on Sept 7, 2004

At the Family History Library, he is often seen

Sitting at the computer, his name is Harvey Green

Why he's traced his family, back to Adam and Eve

Never know just what information, that he'll retrieve

We tease each other, whenever we're around

But inside his body, there's a heart that is found

A kindness he shows, to a special few

Friends and family, that he considers true

He loves the kisses, those that you eat

Chocolate and tasty, he often leaves his seat

His fingers are often found, in the candy jar

He needs the extra energy, he goes back so far

He's often given, a ride to me

So I could do more, on my family history

He's almost there, researching every day

And always has something, he wants to say

I thought it was time, I wrote him a poem

To show my appreciation, of a friend I have known

You're not invisible, you're a special human being

A one of a kind, my good friend Harvey Green

This is a poem for a friend who works on his Family tree.

My friend Harvey Green.

Harvey has since passed, but stays alive

in my memories. Thanks Harvey!

January In December
© By Bud Lemire on Dec 31, 2004

It was January in December
A day I’ll always remember
A card and letter came to me
From someone in my family tree

Her Great Grandmother was a sister to my Grandfather
Pauline said the genealogist was Cherie, her daughter
So I looked on the net and found her number
As thoughts filled my head with wonder

It was a rainy day here for us all
But the sun was shining when I called
Her husband Don picked up the phone
And I could tell there was a happy tone

We confirmed information we both had
And I had a little data that I could add
She asked if there was anything she could do
I replied “yes, family groups leading down to you”

What she wanted was to see pictures of the family
So I told her she could leave that up to me
We ended our conversation on a happy note
I felt so happy, I reread the letter she wrote
It’s times like this that are happy to remember
When touches of January come in December

Pauline and Cherie BOWER’s ancestor Marie Louise Janviere

(French for January) LEMIRE

is the sister to my Grandfather Camille LEMIRE

You are the gift, we love to see

You are the sun as bright as can be

You are an Angel up on high

You make us all just want to try

You bring a smile to our face

You always save us each a place

You are the one we love to love

You are the blessing from above

We love you for being you

For your love is always true

You are indeed a special person who I'm proud not only to be a cousin, but to be a close

friend also. Many people come into our lives, but you have touched us in such a special

way.

This one is for my Cousin Karen Lemire-Hudson, who I met online.

Label Those Pictures

© by Bud Lemire on April 9, 2011

Label those pictures that you now own

Naming the people that you have known

One day you'll be gone, and the pictures will go

To another family member, and they should know

Who are these people?” is what they will say

Why didn't someone label them before they passed away

It would mean so much to know the people there

Right in those photos, so then I could share

An ancestor or cousin that posed for the shot

Maybe taken right there. Or some other spot

No names are listed, so who could they be

I'd like to know, it means a great deal to me

If someone had written who they were

Then I would know and I could be sure

Without a name, they could be anyone

By the looks of the pictures, they sure had fun

Pictures mean more when it's someone you know

Valued quite deeply and touches the soul

Memories replayed of the day it was taken

Lost in the time stream only to be awaken

Label those pictures so we will know

The people in the photos and all that they show

Remember to label those pictures of the people you know. Your kids and other relatives who may get them, won't know who they all are. Pictures become meaningless when they are unknown. So take time to write down who they are on the back. The meaning and value of them will be much higher to the person who has them.

Lemire Gathering 2001

© 2001 by Bud Lemire

I took a journey, far away from home

To a place, where my ancestors use to roam

To somewhere, I don't usually dwell

It was time, to see the world, and come out of my shell

It was a celebration, of two common ancestors we share

This gathering, showed many descendants that they bear

A meeting of cousins, to mark 300 years

That started it all, for so many Lemires

I arrived at Ville-Joie by Taxi, but didn't see one familiar face

The owner of the cottage said, the Lemires were setting up at the other place

Levi Lemire drove up in his car, and drove me over to where they would be

Soon Reine and Claude and others, showed up to join Levi and me

We set up the cottage, for the big gathering to come

Name tags were issued, so we'd know where they were from

I hadn't shaved, or showered for a day

So Reine showed me, to the place where I would stay

I got acquainted, with cousins who were there

Why, there was even one from California, who had red hair

It was the next day, that would be the greatest day forever more

Cousins arrived from everywhere, introductions were at the door

One little old man smiled, and I could see he was very happy too

In French he said, "I must be in Heaven, this is too good to be true”

I felt the same, as I gathered with the cousins who were there

And felt the love of family, of the feelings we did share

I met so many cousins, I wrote them down in my book

And got to know them better, with the time that I took

I took many pictures, but I won't say much about them here

Except to say, upon my journey home, some things did disappear

Then we took part in, a reenacted wedding of our common ancestor

Followed by a meal, with chicken like I've never tasted before

I gathered with some cousins, while a presentation was shown

To compare information, on some families I have known

Singing songs by the campfire, on Lac St. Pierre that night

Happiness and contentment with me, as I basked in the firelight

I shall always remember, the time that I spent there

And all of the cousins I met, who came from everywhere

It was so wonderful to meet so many of my Lemire Cousins.

Margaret, My Friend
© b
y Bud Lemire in 1994

It was 1990 when I first walked through the door
To do my Family Research, and find out much more
Remembering the time we met, you were very kind
Putting others first, leaving your own research behind

Always keeping busy, checking over everything every day
Things stayed in order, nothing’s missing, everything’s okay
Never knowing my Grandmothers, they died before I came to be
But everyone will agree, you’re like a Grandmother to me

I always feel comfortable with you around, you’re a special friend
For everyone and I, you’ve always had an ear to lend
The spirit that guides you, must be a very bright one
It shines like the stars, as well as the sun

They touch the lives, of those who are near,
We look back to you, and a smile becomes clear
Like your spirit guides you, you guide us in turn
Making Family Researching, much easier to learn

Showing us how to research, using your teaching influence today
As we learn so much, as we go about our lives and on our way
You do honor to your age, mixed with the wisdom that you’re sharing
A happy soul, down to earth, with a heart that’s full of caring
You’re wise and kind, especially at your age
I hope I’m like that, if I should reach that stage

This poem is to honor my good friend Margaret Gilbert. She was the first director of the Latter Day Saints Family History Library for several years. I met her when I first started doing my Family Research. When we honored her and Pat in 2001, I sat and talked with her after a year’s absence from her. She said to me, “I was so proud of you. To see you come in to research and you were so shy, hardly spoke to anyone. Now you are all I hear about. Helping so many people all the time. You have transformed into a Master Genealogist. You’ve come a long way!”

I last saw Margaret before I moved to Washington in 2002 and she asked me to send her a card to let her know I arrived safely.  I sat in her yard and chatted with her for a long time. I did send that card when I reached Washington, and it wasn't too long following I learned of her passing.

Michel

@ 2003 by Bud Lemire

This is a poem for a Quebecois friend

A cousin as well, who some time I did spend

Our surname researcher, compiler of facts

Hitting the books, on the library racks

Association genealogist, of our family lore

History of the Lemire family, and what went on before

I met him in person, in 2001

At the Lemire Gathering, which was lots of fun

And then in Montreal, where I did stay

We spent time together, for an entire day

Going by subway, all over the big city

He gave me the grand tour, it sure was pretty

Mosaics in every shape and size

And to the library, a pleasant surprise

Then it was time, for our time to end

Enjoyed all the time, with my cousin, my friend

We share lots of information, of our family tree

And pass it around, for others to see

Michel, merci beaucoup, for all that you share

You sure have your portion, of family savoir-faire

It was great to spend a day in Montreal with Michel Lemire.

He's put out several books on the Lemire Families.

Thank you Michel, for all you've done, and for

being a great friend.

My Lemire Ancestry

© 1996 by Bud Lemire

Let me introduce myself, my name is Bud LEMIRE

The origin of my surname, soon will become clear

In Rouen, Normandy, France, Jean LEMIRE's birth came to be

Mathurin LEMIRE and Jeanne VANNIER were his parents in our ancestry

Traveling to Canada as a young man, Jean found himself a wife

Marrying Louise MARSOLET at Quebec city, and so began their life

They settled in Quebec city, a very long time ago

Where our ancestors Jean and Louise , watched their family grow

Their son Jean-Francois married Francoise FOUCAULT, at Trois Rivieres in 1701

They raised their family, and when they were all done

Four sons moved to Nicolet, and three to Maskinongé

Their descendants can be found there, even to this day

One son moved to L'Assomption, and took on the name MARSOLET

Some of his descendants, still carry that name today

Baie Du Febvre was another settlement, of the branch from Nicolet way

While in Maskinonge, for many years, four branches settled to stay

Of the Maskinongé branch, one took the surname GONNEVILLE

Changing it to GUNVILLE, his descendants carry the name still

One son of the Nicolet branch, added FOUCAULT to his name

Carried down from his Mother, who had the very same

From L'Assomption to Montcalm, the MARSOLETs settled here

Some moved further away, while others settled near

GAUCHER was a DIT name, of another son also

In the Maskinongè area, where my ancestry seems to flow

Settling in different parts of Canada, and coming to the States

Migrating to several areas, on many different dates

Our early ancestors were farmers, planters of the ground

Wherever they had settled, wherever they were found

Later on, some became Doctors, Policemen, Mayors, and Lawyers

Others worked as Railroad men, Miners, or became Sawyers

I'm very proud of my heritage, and of my LEMIRE history

And I'm very happy to be, part of this Family Tree

Just a little Genealogy poetry that I wrote about our

Lemire Ancestry.

My Pinard Family

© by Bud Lemire on Feb 22, 2018

The first was Louis Pinard, in Canada so long ago

Then there's the Louis Pinard, that we all know

His parents and siblings, all were in Biddeford Maine

He came to Champion Michigan, and it's there he'd remain

With his wife Emily Cyr, three children he had

Oscar, Delia, and Louis, all called him Dad

Emily passed away, and he was all alone

Then he met Emilia, she had a family of her own

The Belangers were Tom, Exilia, and George, her first family

One married a Fish, and she was well known to me

Louis and Emilia married, and two more came along

Cordelia and Flora, were added to their life's song

Oscar married Zelpha Fontaine, Delia married Camille Lemire

Louis married Louise St. Jean, each family was dear

Cordelia married a Forgette, Alphonse was his name

Flora married Thomas Mager, and a family soon came

The great Pinard family, had many offspring

Even with genealogy, I still haven't collected everything

But what I do have, is a story I'll tell

They are my family, so I know them well

Being so deep into the Pinard genealogy lately, I needed to

write a poem about them. Thanks to all my Pinard Cousins.

I want to thank those who helped me at the beginning, Leo

Pinard, & Janice Berezay. Without their help, I would not

have even had any idea how or where to get some of the

information I did. I want to also thank everyone else who

has helped me with their family information, Judy Cabral,

The Lemire Descendants, The Mager Descendants, Maryann

Belanger, and Stark (Elmo Pinard's Grandson), and so many

others. Thank you all.

Obituary

© by Bud Lemire on May 2, 2021

When a person passes, everyone should know

Their life's story, in which an obituary will show

Not just their birth date, or the day that they died

But the person they were, on the inside

The parents, and the Mother's maiden name

I loved it when the Obituaries, listed those who came

The number of children, and their names listed too

All of their siblings, in the family that they knew

It should tell a story, of the deceased person to see

So we can all read, about their life's fulfilled destiny

Their interests and life's work, and all that they have done

Because life is too short, not to include some sort of fun

I want to see more people, responding with how they knew

That person who passed, from their point of view

Write something good, so we all can read

About that special person, it's what we all need

An obituary shouldn't be too short, like some can be

It should be well written, to keep in our memory

We may just know part, of the story that is told

With other's input, their whole story will unfold

I love a well written obituary. One that tells you a

story about the person. Sometimes it is so well done

that even when you don't know them, you wish you had.

Some are way too short and not informative, and I don't

believe anyone deserves that. There may be someone

in years to come who wants to know more about that

person. Without the proper information, they won't know.

Even if the big cities can't post a full obituary. One should

be made and posted online somewhere. For those of us who

want to know. Unless of course you are a private person, and

even then, you can decide what to put in it, or not. I feel that

nobody should be forgotten.

Paul, A Special Cousin

© 2001 by Bud Lemire

A special cousin, a special friend, a special person I can say

And to keep in touch, makes life special every day

The daily letters, they keep us in touch

Times we shared, were very much

From season to season, and all through the year

From happiest moments, to those with a tear

We shared much, between my family and yours

And you told me about, all of your chores

You shared your weather report, and I shared mine too

We helped each other in life, all the way through

You've always been there for me, and I've been there for you

I always appreciate all that you say, and all that you do

I am like your son, and you are like my Dad

We've each been through the good times, also the bad

They say blood is blood, we're related that's for sure

And for us genealogists, it doesn't look like there's a cure

We both love to meet new Lemire cousins, and staying in touch with each

We learn so much from them, and for them we sometimes teach

The knowledge of our family, and the history of our clan

And where they had settled, throughout this American land

What more can say, I will say it from my heart

In the life I'm living, you play a special part

With a love for you that's much deeper, than anything I ever had

I send this poem of gratitude, for my cousin, my friend, and my Dad

This is for my Cousin and Friend, Paul Lemire, of Hinton, Alberta,

Canada. We've been typing e-mail back and forth since 1999.

A letter every day to each other. We sure know each other pretty

good by now. Thank you Paul, for being such a wonderful man.

Paul passed away. He now dances is the spirit world.

Present

© 1992 by Bud Lemire

Christmas came and went again, and I had nothing for you

Only to say thanks, for the things that you do

The best gift is knowing, that friends are around

To share in the research, and all that was found

There's too many to name, but none I dislike

The presence of each, is worth a trip on my bike

Traits that make each of you, special and unique

Making me look forward, to each and every week

Doesn't matter where your ancestors came from

They'd be proud of all that you've become

As I am honored, to have each as a friend

Kind welcomes I receive, as you carry on a trend

We share the need to know better, our family tree

Even though there are many, who wouldn't agree

I believe we were chosen, to have the knowledge we find

Guided by ancestral spirits, who are present in our mind

Maybe they sent messages, in your dream one night

Helping to find the path, which lead us to the light

The future may look dim, but you'll find out where they went

I know mine will be brighter, with good friends like you Present

Sometimes the greatest gift is having a friend's presence during

the times when you need them. Appreciating that friend is

something we should always do.

Richard, My Friend

© by Bud Lemire on Feb 10, 2003

It was several years ago, that I met you there

At the Family History Library, you had info you could share

You gave me my start, in climbing my Family Tree

And over the years since, you became a good friend to me

A volunteer worker, helping those to find their way

So they will know their family history, better every day

Spending hours without supper, every Tuesday night

Eating candy from the candy jar, so he would feel alright

I recall those times together, not so long ago

Joking with the gang, to see where it would flow

That's Harvey, Cheryl, Richard, and let's not forget me

All on different branches, on separate family trees

But there were many times, with no one else around

We would share our deepest thoughts, and lift us off the ground

And as we shared these feelings, our friendship it would grow

Richard had a special side, that I came to know

Just like a cover, can't be judged for what's inside the book

You must know what's inside, and take the time to look

For I found an Angel, sitting next to me

And I saw the signs, of all things meant to be

He saw beyond the normal, of the spirits that gathered here

He shared with me this knowledge, so everything would be clear

Richard, oh Richard, no one knows where life will end

Only that I'm forever grateful, to have you as my friend

This is for my dear friend Richard Reiffers.

Who has been there to listen, and been there to feel.

He understands, and he's a special person.

Sweet Lorraine

© 2001 by Bud Lemire

You're my cousin, you're my friend, and sometimes you're my Mother

And through this journey of life, we have helped one another

You felt my weary traveler's heart, when we met earlier this year

And through my words in poetry, you even felt my fear

You've been there for me, with the changes I've been through

You are a special person, just for being you

You didn't always agree, with my point of view

You held back your advice, so I could do what I should do

You were there in life, to always cheer for me

And you accepted me, just for who I could be

We climbed our tree together, and it was a lot of fun

You shared a lot of family information, with all that you had done

You told me of your fears, and you heard all about mine

\Ye both got through then and now we're doing just fine

We shared a lot, about each others life

You told me how it was, to be a Mother and a wife

We learned about each other, as we went along

And corrected one another when one of us was wrong

We shared our views, on everything that we knew

And from it all, we helped each other through

I would like to take the time, to thank you very much

For being a special friend, and always keeping in touch

Your friendship was the sunshine, when I was feeling rain

You understood my life in many ways, my sweet, sweet, Lorraine

For my friend and cousin Lorraine Lemire-Miville. Thank you

for your insight, and your help in genealogy and in life.

Lorraine has since passed.

Teachers Of The Family Tree

(in honor of Margaret Gilbert & Pat Sundstrom)

© Sept 11, 2001 By Bud Lemire

This poem is for the Teachers, Of The Family Tree

Margaret Gilbert & Pat Sundstrom, and what they mean to me

They've always been there, guiding us in all we do

And through our family research, we looked up to you

When hopelessness was present, and darkest was the night

You kept our spirits hoping, you gave us love and light

You told us when the time was right, our families would be found

For their spirits are guiding us, from the Heavenly ground

You gave us many options, and told us where to go

You made us smile with happiness, when we were feeling low

You taught us going with our feelings, plays the biggest part

You joined in our success, when we added to our chart

You taught us the bond with our ancestors, always holds true

And their spirits are inside of us, with everything we do

Although they seem so far away, they are close at hand

And they are watching us, as we carry out life's plan

You taught us that sharing, is a big part of genealogy

And brings us closer together, as we climb our family tree

Though we have our own trees to climb, and families like we do

Genealogists become closer, they're like family too

Through the many years, the family I have known

Became even more special, because my spirit's grown

I shall always remember, the help you've given me

I thank you with all my heart, the Teachers Of The Family Tree

Thank you Margaret Gilbert and Pat Sundstrom, for all the help

you've given us through the years. Your presence and your warm

friendship is truly something that makes life so much better for

each of us. One that shall be remembered for years to come.

The Bell Sisters Three

© 2002 by Bud Lemire

There are the Bell Sisters Three, Bev, Nancy, & Elaine

They each write me e-mail, keeping me sane

They're distant as cousin, but closer as friend

I look forward to their life's story, and what they send

They are all Canadians, my ancestors were too

Our lines connect in Quebec, the French usually do

They did a lot of research, on their family line

And we're connected by blood, their family and mine

We made contact, in the year two thousand and two

It was a Pinard tie in, and our friendship grew

Soon Bev & Elaine, were sending me mail

And later that year, their sister Nancy set sail

Now I'm getting mail, from all of the three

I send letters back, from my wife and from me

They read my poems, that I send them to read

My poetry is spiritual, and the soul it'll feed

They shared their story, of life and of loss

And how it effected them, and what it cost

With an Olive on one branch, the maternal bond very deep

Their Mom guides them spiritually, a love always to keep

I look forward to their letters to me

My dear friends and cousins, The Bell Sisters Three

Genealogy has a habit of helping you find Cousins

that turn out to be really good friends. Following

this poem, in 2003, I got to go up and meet two of

the Bell Sisters, Bev and Elaine, and other family

members and friends. We stayed up there a few

days in Richmond, near Vancouver BC, and it

was very enjoyable.

The Family Tree

© 2002 by Bud Lemire

Oh what a thrill it is, to climb the family tree

To see on each branch, who's related to me

I have so many cousins, they're coming out of the walls

Many try reaching me, with all of their phone calls

Why, I must have a cousin, in almost every state

And this genealogy, sure keeps me up so late

Trying to figure out, just who is who

And where they went, without even a clue

They show up, in the most unusual places

And some sure can, resemble us in their faces

Or other characteristics, with everything we do

There's always some ancestor's, personality that comes through

Maybe it's what we like to do, or how we go about it

That always keeps the fire burning, always to be lit

It keeps the flames alive, our life and love of kin

That makes the research fun, whenever we begin

To see a letter arrive, from a cousin from far away

And find out what they have to share, and what they have to say

Sometimes I find myself on a branch so far out on the tree

I wonder how I got there, all I did was start with me

It's been a wonderful journey climbing the Family Tree.

I've met some really wonderful family members.

The Rewards Of Genealogy

© by Bud Lemire on Sept 30, 2014

While researching my Family Tree

I have found rewards in genealogy

Being in touch with Cousins near and far

Sharing family stories and finding out who they are

You just never know who you might hear from today

A cousin you never knew might have something to say

They could be interested in the Family Tree

And the rewards of researching genealogy

Some may be a close Cousin, some might not be

Striking up a friendship, they always write to me

To me it comes as a surprise to hear

From a Cousin who could be far or near

There are so many branches on the Family Tree

I never know which one will be in touch with me

It's like a Gold Mine when contact is made

You can help them, they can come to your aide

I've been in touch with many throughout my research time

Many have become close and have touched this heart of mine

As I've researched branches on my Family Tree

I find there comes the Rewards Of Genealogy

The rewards of genealogy is not only finding out who your

ancestors were and who their families are, but also finding

out who your cousins are. Once you find some Cousins who

are still alive, you make contact, and you a common love of

the family you each come from. You get to share stories of those

they spent time with, those you spent time with, and those you've

heard stories about. These special moments are the rewards of

genealogy.

The Tree Of Genealogy

© by Bud Lemire on April 18, 2018

Once again, I'm deep into my family tree

Gathering relatives, and what they mean to me

Cousins, they seem to be everywhere

I bet I even have some, who are unaware

You have to have an interest, in your family history

Willing to delve into, those who are a mystery

If you aren't interested, distant cousins you'll not find

Out of your reach, are those not on your mind

I like to see their pictures, those relatives of mine

And know that when I research, it is a special sign

That their wishes, are to share all that I do

With cousins and other relatives, so they would know too

I tried a new method, adding their information to an index card

It's easier to follow them, and it doesn't make it hard

I can find missing information, any time at all

Because many times, I come upon a brick wall

Just when you think, that they are out of sight

Information will appear, with a guiding light

Just be a little patient, because when the time is right

You'll soon find yourself, caught up in family delight

Nothing is more interesting, than doing your family history

Where did they come from, unravel the family mystery

Nothing is more fun, than climbing the Tree of Genealogy

Finding so many relatives, and how they're related to me

I started researching my ancestry in 1990. And have found

out so much about my ancestors and other relatives. I even

took a trip to Quebec in 2001, and met so many relatives, and

walked the land my ancestors did. I've met many cousins, who

have become very dear to my heart. It's been an amazing climb,

and I think I shall enjoy it for many years to come.

Your Family Tree
© by Bud Lemire on June 6, 2009

Many years ago I climbed my Family Tree
The time has passed and I still can’t let it be
It seems the more I do, the more I want to do
I know I’ll spend a lifetime, and I’ll never be through
But it really doesn’t matter at all to me
It seems that I was born to do genealogy

There are always updates that need filling in
Many people are not sure where they should begin
First of all you have to start with You
Then your parents and grandparents and everything you knew
Until you can’t go back on your memory
Then you start on that branch on your Family Tree

Don’t think of it as a big job, to climb the Family Tree
Space it out in branches, for it’s your Family History
The history of your family, leading down to you
All the information found, that you never knew
What they did for a living, the year they immigrated
A new land to move to, it had to be appreciated

Raising a large family, was hard work to do
Farming for survival, so the life could lead to you
I’m always finding something as I research a little more
I believe the “learning experience” is what we’re here for
So if you are swinging around on your Family Tree
There can’t be any monkey business when it comes to genealogy
The answers can be found, somehow and somewhere
And there’s always someone, who is willing to share

Never give up, as you search your Family Tree
New information will appear, in your ancestry
For we are guided by those who came before
They are behind us, so we can find so much more

I've had so much pleasure from climbing my family tree.

I've met some really wonderful people who have passed through my life as well.
