Entertainment
Entertainment comes in many different ways. It's all about what you enjoy. It can TV shows you like, music you like, things you like to do. Games, etc.
This chapter is all about entertainment. Maybe there are some books you enjoy reading, or some author you really like. A singer you like, a group you liked, so many things. Working on a Jigsaw puzzle,
These poems are all about entertainment.

What's in the meaning of a number?
For some, it makes you wonder
People tend to think a number, is very good luck
They'll play the lottery, to try to win a buck
Spiritual people think some numbers, are Angels that are near
While some numbers, have meanings that are unclear
Maybe it's for a very special day
To be remembered, in a certain way
A Birthday, A Marriage, or a day when someone died
A day to be remembered, a day where you had cried
Maybe someone, had a bad year
On this day, it had brought a tear
Nineteen Fifty, might be pretty nice
It's really not a bad score, when rolling the dice
Unless you're superstitious, and then it could just be
That Nineteen Fifty, is your greatest enemy
For me, it doesn't mean a thing
I'll roll the dice, and take what it will bring
What will be, is what it will be
When rolling dice, I have no enemy
I play to have fun, a great night with friends
A night of enjoyment, when the day ends
If my score is Nineteen Fifty, it won't worry me
Playing the game, is using a better strategy
If it comes up, and that is the score
I treat it like any other, I just ignore
If you rolled again, that loss was your chance
To keep what you had, or to do the losers dance
1950 doesn't have any curse to it. It is just a number.
It is not out to make you lose. You are above the number, and can control it.
A
Song
© by
Bud Lemire on June 19, 2010
There’s
a song for any occasion you know
To
lift the heart and touch the soul
A
song to bring you down memory lane
A
meaningful tune that’ll always remain
In
your life when music plays a role
You
want to dance because it makes you whole
Then
truly you know that’s its meant to be
When
the music plays and it sets you free
I
live with music in every day
It
touches me in many a way
I
turn on the stereo and play a tune
And
I know I’ll be feeling better very soon
It
takes me away to another place
Sometimes
a memory and a familiar face
There
are songs for any feeling you desire
Pick
me ups, sad ones, or to start love’s fire
So
play a song and dance for awhile
A
happy song that’ll make you smile
I’ll
smile too and I’ll join in
Because
a song is good for everything
A
song is a great way to start your day,
help you through your day, and end the day.
I live for music, because it truly helps my soul
on this journey we call life. It eases the soul and touches
deep inside and makes me feel so very good.
Play
a song and be happy.
An Instrumental Life
© 2002 by Bud Lemire
Anyone can have it, An Instrumental Life
Grab a set of drums, and bring along your fife
Or maybe you prefer, to strum on a guitar
To see if it will take you, somewhere very far
Sometimes it's so nice, to glide on the violin
To know the music, and where you should begin
Many start off, with the clarinet
Before they know it, they are all set
Some say that, I am much like a French horn
It's my Quebec blood, where my ancestors were born
I love to float away, on the sound of a flute
It takes me to a peaceful place, with a parachute
You can make someone's day, with music from a cello
Or a warm smile, that silently is a loving hello
A tuba or a bass, may be what you play
To touch the soul, and make someone's day
The keys to a good life, are not seen on a piano
It's what you do, with everything that you know
An Instrumental Life, is when you're in harmony with you
And the music that you share, is what helps you through
At Every Concert
© by Bud Lemire on April 6, 2024
Tall people who stand in front of you, and those dancing drunks
Women who wear strong perfume, and they smell like skunks
People who think, at every concert they must stand
When everyone behind them, is trying to see the band
I think tall people, should sit in the balcony or way in the back
Drunks shouldn't be allowed in, because they always quack
People should be told, not to stand but to sit
Others just can't see, and it isn't worth a spit
We pay, and come to enjoy the band
We can't see anything, when they stand
When they jump up and down
I didn't come to see a clown
Then they spill their beer in the aisle
I look around, and don't see anyone smile
I grab my slingshot, and I'm a good aim
When something bothers me, I play the game
One good shot, and that beer would explode everywhere
The people in the next row, would give me a nasty stare
Nobody actually saw my slingshot, so did they really know
Then I'd laugh inside, I really was here to enjoy the show
Quick! Hide the slingshot, here comes security.
Just a poem at my frustration of inconsiderate people at
a concert. They wear perfume that smells like they took
a bath in. They drink beer they smells awful, and dance
around so nobody can see. I know tall people can't help
their height, but the hosts of the concert should at least
make sure that everyone is seated so others behind can
see. They aren't doing their job.
Bingo
© by Bud Lemire on March 24, 2017
Whether you have O75 or B1
Bingo is a lot of fun
Possibly you'll have an N32
Or an I21 will get you through
You could win on a B11
Or get a Bingo on a G47
Maybe if you get an N33
Cover it up, so no one can see
An I16 is a good one for you
Or you could win on a O62
Maybe you will win on a Postage Stamp
Or maybe your hand will get a cramp
Straight across, diagonally, or straight down
Even if you don't win, no need for a frown
Oh look! You got a G54
You are too close to ignore
The caller calls out a B2
One away from the winner being you
With just one number to go
Someone calls out, BINGO!
I think Bingo is much more fun when you
have something to win. No matter what it is.
A prize of some kind is always worth having
the winning card.
Blowing Bubbles
© by Bud Lemire on July 16, 2015
Blowing bubbles is so much fun
Fun for me and everyone
So many bubbles in the air
They pop or fly as you're aware
I think that we all should have fun
Every day in life, because soon it's done
Take the time to blow a bubble or two
Until your time here is finally through
At any moment your life might stop
Just like a bubble that will pop
So enjoy the time and enjoy some fun
Blow some bubbles until they're done
Watch them go so very high
Or very low as they pass by
How many bubbles can you blow
So many that it is hard to know
I'll blow the bubbles just because
It's much more fun than blowing fuzz
Fun for me and everyone
Blowing bubbles is lots of fun
Every now and then take time to enjoy the
little things in life. Blowing bubbles, or
whatever it is. The little things all add up
to the bigger things, and have more meaning
than you could ever know. Blow a bubble,
watch it pop. Have some fun!
Boggle Up Your Mind
© 2003 by Bud Lemire
Boggle up the letters, Boggle up your mind
Tell me of the many words, that you will find
Are you looking for them, in each and every row
Maybe you will find some words, that you don't know
Are you finding words, in letters of only three
Why not search for longer ones, and just let those be
I search for longer words, because the value's more
Then I will win that round, when we tally up the score
It is fun to play this game, and the words that others see
Are not always the same, as the ones for me
They had a word written, I didn't know was there
I had gotten part of it, and I sure did stare
Shake up all the letters, so good words can be found
Maybe if I look close by, others will be around
One letter leads to another, and then a word will form
Wow, I'm writing down so many, my hands are feeling warm
Search for all the words, and have yourself some fun
Enjoy this game of word searching, even if you haven't won
So Boggle up the letters, Boggle up your mind
Tell me of the many words, that you will find
For those who don't know. Boggle is a game where you search for words.
Kind of like a word search puzzle.
You shake up the boggle box and the letters fall in place and you look for words. I had a lot of fun playing it with my Mom, Nancy, & John for many years.
Crazy For The Dare
© 2002 by Bud Lemire
There seems to be a lot of shows, lately on TV
About various people, who’ll do anything for money
Racing around the world, survival, or crammed into a house
Some will test their fear, by having to eat a mouse
So many people in competition, against each other
Never know who will be watching, maybe Big Brother
It’s a race, survival of who will win the test
And come out of the contest, as being the very best
Or is it just crazy, at what these people will try
Some handle the feat well, while others just get by
Besides the money, it’s great to be in the public’s eye
But what I really want to know, is why oh why oh why?
I wouldn’t do these things, no matter how much money they gave
Or have a TV camera follow me around, to see how I’d behave
They wouldn’t catch me eating a spider, no way, no, not me
Or a cockroach and worm casserole, or even a bumblebee
You wouldn’t find me, climbing a wall way up in the air
And never would you catch me, without any underwear
I guess you’ll find people, almost anywhere
Who are up to the challenge, Crazy For The Dare
Cribbage
© by Bud Lemire on April 18, 2019
Playing Cribbage, isn't very hard
It's all about, what you'll do with each card
Will you throw away those, or the other two
What you keep and throw in the crib, is up to you
Fifteens, pairs, and runs, all help to move the peg
It's all about the cards, it's not about your leg
Getting as many points, as you can make
Pegging across the board, with every point you take
It's my Crib now, what will I throw away
Points to keep in my hand, and ones that I can play
I had to break up my hand, what else could I do
Yet, I'm hoping it will work, with the cards I threw
What will the cut be
I hope it will help me
Oh, two points for the Jack, that will work out fine
And it goes great, with this hand of mine
Oh great, my opponent threw away points for me to take
My peg is moving faster, with each point that I make
I'm ahead of her, in fact I might go out
My next hand though, leaves me with some doubt
My opponent passed me by, she's a winner in this game
Having fun in Cribbage, is my only aim
Cribbage is a fun game, that depends upon what cards you get,
what you throw away, the Cut, what your opponent throws away,
and how many points you get from the combination of the above.
Some thinking choices are involved, but it is interesting to see what
shows up, and what it adds up to. It's a game that has been around
a very long time, and is still enjoyed many years later.
Dark Horse In The Sky
© 2001 by Bud Lemire
He brought the sun, and something in the way she moves us all
And lead us to the Crackerbox Palace, upon the walls so tall
A journey with a dark horse, and This Song playing in your head
He had his mind set on you, with every word that he said
He brought us closer to Heaven, up upon Cloud Nine
And we learned more about him too, with I ME MINE
He gave us love, he gave us peace on Earth
He showed us of the love, and what our Sweet Lord was worth
He always told us, to love one another
To Paul, he was like a baby brother
Back when they were Fab, among the Beatles with his voice
He followed his own path, because that was his choice
He traveled with the Wilburys, with his wonderful guitar sound
With Bob and Roy and Tom and Jeff, he would always be found
He had a sense of humor, a gentle spirit, and he was always kind
And shared so many songs with us, that flowed out of his mind
From the Taxman, to within the Rubber Soul
All the songs he's shared with us, all those years ago
He knew about Life Itself, we thank him for the sun
He knew all about love, Love Comes To Everyone
While Our Guitars Gently Weep, for a man we loved so much
He is never far away, when it's the Inner Light we touch
So, George, up there in Heaven, we thank you for your song
That you shared with all of us, we're so glad you came along
This one is for you George! Thanks for all the music you gave us.

Exploring The Shack
© by Bud Lemire on March 12, 2017
It all happened at the Shack
At least it did for Mack
When Missy went missing, it brought him there
And what happened there, is beyond compare
It will turn your thoughts, upside down
Make you think about it, when you go to town
I like it because, who really knows
About the afterlife, and everyone's roles
Too many people are caught in a spell
Thinking too strongly between Heaven and Hell
Not thinking enough, not willing to explore
Like what happened to Mack, when he arrived at the door
A new concept, on everything you knew
Will open your mind, this much is true
As the people across the lands, carry their loads
On the Eve of a new day, they'll arrive at the Cross Roads
I loved how the author explored a new concept to everything.
I loved how he took us to many different places and got us
thinking about things differently. I'm always for an open mind,
because we view things in a routine, but what if it was different.
Exquisite Corpse
© by Bud Lemire on Feb 7, 2024
There's a drawing game, that we use to play
At the kitchen table, and I have to say
One person would draw the head, and hide it so
The next person drew the body, so it wouldn't show
The next person, draws the legs and the feet
The end result, is hard to be beat
Mom and us kids , would draw with this game
Each time we did it, it was never the same
We never imagined, how it would turn out
The surprise ending, was what it was all about
Fold the paper in three, the long way from bottom to top
Fold it half for four games, and then you can stop
The first person draws the head, the second draws the body part
The third person draws the legs and feet, and it becomes a work of art
Now that you have it, give it a try
Be creative, and then you apply
I know Mom and us kids, had a whole lot of fun
We laughed at the results. When we were all done
Mom and us kids did have a lot of fun playing this.
I never knew what it was called until just before
I wrote this poem. I decided to relive those times,
and share them with you. I'd like to try the game
again.
Give Me A Stanza
© by Bud Lemire on March 14, 2004
Give me a stanza that touches me deep
And I'll print out the poem, so I can keep
Give me some lines, with words that touch
And I'll let you know, I feel it very much
Give me a poem, that makes me smile
And I'll sit nearby, and laugh awhile
Give me a rhyme, that flows very well
That captures the moment, as if under a spell
Give me good structure, and give me good soul
And all the things you want me to know
Give it a breath, and all of your heart
I'll tell you you're witty, and very smart
Give me a stanza, that touches me deep
A wonderful poem, that I'd like to keep
Greed
© by Bud Lemire on May 11, 2023
It takes six dice, to play a game of Greed
You shake them, roll them, see where it will lead
You get fifty, if you roll a five
A one is one hundred, and you must strive
Three fives is five hundred, keep on going
Three dice to go, just keep on throwing
You didn't get anything, you lost it all
You just never know, where the dice will fall
Three ones are one thousand, three dice left to throw
You might get lucky, your points could grow
If you get four of a number, you double the three
Knowing when to stop throwing, is part of the key
If you roll six ones, you get an eight thousand score
You could roll them again, either lose it or get more
It's all about shaking, and taking a chance
Where the dice will stop, at the end of a dance
You can have three pairs, for an eight hundred score
Play on the table, it's no fun playing on the floor
You get twelve hundred, if you have a straight
Having a high score, makes you feel pretty great
You need ten thousand or more, if you're going out
Winning the game, isn't always what this game is about
It's about the enjoyment of, getting together with friends
Makes the day even more special, when the night ends
I love playing Greed with all my friends here at the
Harbor Tower. It's fun to get together and play and
chat awhile, and just have a great time together.
I Let The Music Take Me
© by Bud Lemire on Feb 23, 2006
I let the music take me
To where I want to be
I never know where I will go
I'm always guided by my soul
The feelings it brings
As my spirit sings
Enlightening a deeper part
That lies beyond the heart
I let the music play
I hear it everyday
Some are new and some I know
They help to make my spirit whole
I listen to the songs
And feel where they belong
They touch me to the core
And then I'll play some more
I let the music through
To do what it will do
The music tends to heal
With every tune I feel
I Love Music
© 2003 by Bud Lemire
I love music, of a large variety
It means very much, all the world to me
Exploring and enjoying, all that enters my ear
And touches me so deep inside, calming any fear
When it has a good rhythm, and has a good beat
It reaches far inside me, uplifts me to my feet
Some is soft and soothing, relaxes me to a sleep
Many of the songs I love, are ones I like to keep
They come from many countries, all around the globe
And enter through the eardrum, just above the lobe
Music is a blessing, it touches within the soul
Streaming from my stereo, through the speaker's hole
Sometimes I'll turn it up loud, and dance around the room
Wherever there is music, that is where I loom
It picks me up from, wherever I am at
I thank all composers, I take off my hat
Music is in my family, music runs through my veins
On a sunny day, or on a day it rains
It's a fact that I love music, on tape or on CD
Or coming from the radio, it means so much to me
This next poem is not the same as the one you just read. I love Music so much, I had to tell you twice in different ways.
I
Love Music
© by
Bud Lemire on May 2, 2009
I
love music, and it’s music that I play
Helps
me through, no matter what the day
And
it’s music that I love to explore
It’s
what you may hear when you pass my door
Music,
gentle and soft as a butterfly in the air
Rock
and Roll, that has your feet moving everywhere
Oldies
from the past that take you back in time
I
have so much music in the library of my mind
What
would we do without music, I really dread to think
To
us who are human, it’s the Heavenly link
It
touches us deeply, right into our soul
I
love hearing music wherever I go
It
expresses how we feel, with the words we hear
It
calms us into peacefulness, when we’re feeling fear
For
me it’s like life, I want to explore everything
And
feel the feelings, that each song will bring
I
surround myself with music, I surround myself with love
While
the music plays inside my head, the birds fly up above
I
love music, it’s what I’ve always known
I
grew up with music, and still love it fully grown
Listen
to the music, let it take you where you want it to
I
know that is what my music will always do
I
love music! Mom sang to us as kids, which started the music inside of
us. Grandma played the piano and taught others how to play right here
in Escanaba. She played during the silent film days. My sister
Jeannie played the piano and guitar, and even had an album out a long
time ago. My brother Clyde, played Tuba and Bass for many years. Me,
I love music of all kinds, and can not get enough of what I love so
very much. I write the poems, which could be put to music. Poems are
songs without the music. I love sharing music and my poetry, because
I think everyone should enjoy them. Life is too short not to enjoy
that which is music to our ears. Let the music play on, and enjoy the
memories they bring.
I Love Packages
© by Bud Lemire on March 9, 2021
I love packages, when they come in the mail every week
They bring on a smile to my face, when the days seem bleak
I can order stuff on Amazon, Walmart, or eBay
Maybe there's a package for me, in the mail today
Informed mail told me, I'd have three packages coming on Tuesday
Only two arrived, I wonder if the other one ran away
Two came the next day, I unwrapped it to see
What it was inside, that was coming to me
Books, DVDs, and all the things I enjoy
CDs or something else, I'm like a little boy
The little things in life, mean the most to me
I treasure and take pleasure, with each package I see
Four packages today, and they all seemed to fit
I carry them to my apartment, and open them as I sit
It's like a gift, that is to me from me
Being happy with them, is one of life's key
They come from everywhere, and I also must say
Packages bounce to anywhere, which causes a delay
A smile is on my face, today a package will arrive
Some come right to my door, I feel so alive
I do a lot of ordering, so I can get a lot of packages.
Of course lately the mail has been slower, but still
when they do arrive it is nice to open them.
Jigsaw Puzzle
© by Bud Lemire on Jan 10, 2018
I'm looking for that one piece, it could be anywhere
I find a different one, that goes over there
I start with the border, and work the others into place
When I'm working alone, I goes at a very slow pace
As I get more into it, it starts picking up speed
I sort through the colored pieces, that will give me a good lead
A thousand piece puzzle, is a good one for me
It's a great challenge, and now and then I have company
I like a beautiful scene, with lots of details throughout
To me, that's what doing a jigsaw, is all about
To sit down, and have a peace of mind
As I look for that one piece, I hope I'll find
Sometimes you pick a piece, never knowing where it will go
Looking over the puzzle and the box, “Oh, now I know”
I hate it when there's pieces missing
But it's part of life, and I won't be hissing
Give me a jigsaw, one piece at a time
Passing it by, would be such a crime
Interlocking, is truly the best kind
Yet, some border pieces, are too hard to find
A jigsaw puzzle, is perfect for me
To relax, and enjoy, quite naturally
During the Winter months, when I'm not
outside as much due to the cold weather.
I am working on a jigsaw, trying to piece
together the bigger picture. It is a challenge.
But with patience, and time, all will fall into place.
Sounds a bit like life, doesn't it?
Journey In A Song
© by Bud Lemire on April 10, 2019
Every music artist, shares their journey in a song
We listen to the words, and we follow along
Sometimes, it's about an experience they went through
Other times, it's about what they like to do
It could be about something, they wish us to hear
A message in the song, that comes across so clear
Other times the melody, is worth listening to
It helps us to define, what we are going through
I find it fascinating, the story in their song
Because we listen, and are glad we came along
The song might be imagined, but still it's what was told
We learned it as a child, and we're still singing it when we're old
Sometimes the song has a meaning, that we may never know
The music artist lets us, figure it out as we go
It might mean something different, to each and everyone
Others just follow along, while the lyrics are on the run
Songs are about life, and changes it is making
As we travel in time, in the voyage that we are taking
We listen to the words, and we follow along
As every music artist, shares their Journey In A Song
We like an artist because of the music we've come to enjoy.
Their lyrics tell a story, from their beginnings to their ends.
Through the years we follow what they share with us. As time
goes on, their messages change, as our lives change. The story
they were telling us at the beginning, is now a different story. In
each song, each album or CD, there is a theme in what they are
trying to get across to the listeners. What have we picked up?
Do we understand what they are telling us? Or is it a hidden
message to someone else out there in the listening audience?
All we can do is enjoy the music, as they share their journey in
a song.
Journey Within A Book
© by Bud Lemire on Feb 3, 2019
Take a journey with me, within a book
Come on, let's see, let's take a look
The adventure will take us, to a far off place
I know with the books we've read, that is the case
Let's cheer for the hero, with so much to do
Before this book, he was someone we hardly knew
Now we are hoping, that all will end well
We know it won't happen, without going through some hell
As more characters, pop up along the way
Each one a friend, that we hope will stay
The enemy arises, he's so very strong
The hero will prevail, his name in a song
Don't worry, about the blood and the gore
Ahead in this chapter, is so much more
The author knows, how to pull us in
With his master mind, I'm sure he will win
We just started this book, and it's almost done
And together we traveled, and sure had some fun
I'm so glad, you took the journey with me
Within a book, it's an adventure for thee
What an adventure a book can take you on. It can
bring you places you never have been before. It can
put thoughts in your head, and just make you forget
that it is only a book. Until of course you put it down,
and realize, you are back in the real world. But, what
a place to go. What an adventure!
Let Me Dance
© by Bud Lemire on March 16, 2006
Let me dance, and let me sing
With a touch of 40's, and let me swing
Let me dance, and never stop
To the 50's and 60's, songs of do-whop
Bring me to the 70's, and let me move
A touch of music, to get me into the groove
To the 80's and 90's, let me go
Make me a dancing fool, let it show
Beyond the year 2000, as I still dance
Let my feet keep keep moving, as I take a chance
Let my body move with the greatest of ease
With each step I take, let it be a breeze
Let me dance to music, let me dance in quiet
If you don't know about it, then you should try it
Let the dance of life, always be true
When the music inside, will help you through
Let me dance a good life, until the end of time
With a calmness around, with this soul of mine
Let me dance, and let me sing
Looking Back To The 70's

Looking back to the 70's, there's a lot to treasure
So many things from the past, gave us much pleasure
The Spirograph designs looked great to me
The 8-Ball gave us answers to our destiny
The Etch-A-Sketch was a young artist's dream
When Operation buzzed, it made a young girl scream
There's the Slinky, down steps it would move
With all of my 45's, I got into the groove
I love music, and how everyone sings
Paul started his new band, he called them Wings
Gilbert O'Sullivan sang “Alone Again Naturally”
It always resurfaced in my memory
The Disco era kept us Staying Alive
And the Bee Gees were talking that Jive
The CB Radio craze, 10-4, 10-4
We had a Convoy and so much more
Oh the memories looking back on that time
Passing through this brain of mine
I'm sure you have memories that come to you
Of things that you did and all you went through
Looking back on the 70's I have a smile
It was an era I loved, which had a great style
What the 70's meant to me in my memories
Netflix
© by Bud Lemire on Sept 7, 2015
I watch Netflix, that's what I do
On my TV, using my Roku
Wireless, I stream it all to see
All kinds of shows on my TV
You can stop it anywhere
It's start again, at that place there
You can pick the shows you want to see
And pause it anytime that you have to pee
I love how it works, my Netflix
There's quite a selection, a very large mix
I also subscribe to receive the DVD
And watch them as well, on my TV
They e-mail to let me know what's on the way
It usually arrives on the same date they say
When my queue goes empty, they let me know
So I add more titles, and watch my list grow
It's cheaper than cable, an enjoyable stream
I guess I am living in the Netflix dream
DVDs come right to my box on a certain day
I love my Netflix, and just had to say
Thank you Netflix for the great selection and
great way we can enjoy our TV shows and movies
while we enjoy life. Thanks for keeping us
entertained. Also, I want to thank you for the
kind people who help us on the phones when we
call for help. They are very kind and helpful.
Ode To Superheroes
© by Bud Lemire on April 6, 2003
There goes Spiderman, climbing up the wall
Flying to the rescue, Superman answers a call
The Hulk is on a rampage, and it's quite a sight
Up there in the sky, we see Green Lantern's light
Swinging around the corner, is Daredevil, the man without fear
The Flash is so fast, can't even tell if he is near
The X-Men are on the scene, with Professor Xavier in his chair
The caped crusaders Batman and Robin, sure do make quite a pair
Wonder Woman arrives, who could ask for more
And holding his hammer, is the Thunder God Thor
Look closely at the trees, and you'll see The Swamp Thing
Captain America is so amazing, with his boots that have a wing
Aquaman is chatting, with the dolphins and the whale
The Sub-Mariner watches, to the astonishing tale
The Justice League Of America, makes sure that all is fine
The Fantastic Four make an appearance, so no one is out of line
Up up it goes, shooting fast, it's the Green Arrow
The Silver Surfer glides in, on a board that is kind of narrow
The elements gone wild, we see the Metal Men
The Avengers appear, and then we count to ten
In a puff of smoke, Dr. Strange appears
A party for Superheroes, calming all our fears
So many of their adventures, through the years I've read
Taking me to places I've enjoyed, I'd say 'Nuff Said'
I've read so many comic books in my life. They aren't just for kids anymore.
If you're an adult and you have an imagination, let it go, and enjoy them. I did.
The stories are well done, and the authors and artists take you on a journey of
the heart and soul.
Old Dog
© by Bud Lemire on May 10, 2022
I may be an old dog, but I still love to run
Even when I was younger, I loved to have fun
I may get out of breath, my master makes me take a break
I love people, and seeing them, even if it's the last breath I take
Down to the park, or around the municipal dock
My master brings me out, for a most wonderful walk
Around the Water Plant, I see someone there
I run to a kindred spirit, a moment we share
Some are afraid of me, but I'm just an old dog
I'm more harmless, than a green leaping frog
My days are numbered, I don't live as long as you
My master gives me the best time, she knows what to do
She doesn't make me roll over any more
She knows my bones are old and sore
She doesn't make me fetch the ball
Yet she knows I would give my all
I try not to bark, so I don't scare people away
I love laying in the sun, on a warm day
I may be an old dog, but I am also your best friend
My soul will be a bright light, when I ascend
Hey people! I love you. My tongue hangs out, but
I give you my all. I get old just like you. Thanks
for understanding that I am mortal just like you.
I don't live forever. Thank you for making my days
better. I appreciate all you do for me. Fresh water,
Oh yeah! Love it. Thanks for being my friend.
Olivia

You came from Australia, and gave so much to us
A beautiful voice and smile, which was a big plus
You starred with John in the movie “Grease”
You sang about Love, you sang about peace
You had a “Magic” touch, when you sang in “Xanadu”
You let the animal out, when you got “Physical” too
A higher voice had called the tune, with a “Twist Of Fate”
I guess what happened was, Heaven couldn't wait
“I'll Bet You A Kangaroo” that you are dancing to a didgeridoo
In the Spirit World where you are, and singing a song too
You've always been an angel, “No Matter What You Do”
All your fans will be, sending their love to you
“Please Mr. Please” don't play B17 any more
Olivia is now singing on a distant shore
“Sam” I know who I am
Watching a Heavenly program
Olivia gave us memories, with each song
To cherish forever, and to keep us strong
Another Angel was born, when she passed away
Leaving behind a discography, of the best songs to play
From the very beginning, Olivia gave us her very best.
Her music was a pleasure to listen to. I listened to her
so often, and her songs are always on my playlist. She
gave so much to us throughout her lifetime.
Thank you Olivia!

Polish Poker
© by Bud Lemire on May 9, 2019
Take out the Sevens, Aces, and Kings too
Deal out all the cards, until you are through
Throw the two dice, add the total of each dice
If you have that number, that'll be pretty nice
Sevens are wild, choose any card to throw in
Doubles mean another shake, and a chance you could win
Be sure to pass the dice, so the next person can throw
So it'll be easier, when it's their turn to go
If you don't have the card, of the total of dice you threw
Others with that card, throw theirs in the middle too
Set up your cards in an “easy to find” way
Whatever works for you, will be okay
It's a fast paced game, and easy to learn
Goes around fast, with each taking a turn
Don't have to be Polish to play the game
Many Nationalities play, it's just a name
Come join us for a game today
You'll enjoy it, so come on lets play
We call it Polish Poker, it's so much fun
It's a game that can be played by everyone
I started playing the game with my fellow Senior
Companions, and enjoyed it so much, I had to share
it with the residents I visit weekly. They enjoy it too.
Although there are many versions of the game, this is
the one I learned, and I play it this way. It's a simple
game, and enjoyed by all who play it. Whatever you
call it, I still call it FUN, because that is what it is.
Read Her A Book
© by Bud Lemire on Feb 21, 2015
Read to her, read her a book
Take her on an adventure, take a look
It's like a movie, more personal though
There are so many places, where you can go
More personal, and you can be very close
It's even better with the one you love the most
When you put more into what you do
You'll be amazed at where it takes you to
Pick out a book that you both can enjoy
It can be more fun that any old toy
It's romantic and you both are taking part
It touches your soul, and touches your heart
Your voice is more powerful than you ever knew
The love that you share will be felt all the way through
Your body will shine, on your face will be a smile
You'll want to keep reading, for quite awhile
Read her a book, something you both can treasure
You'll both be taken into so much pleasure
Read her a book, do it tonight
Then you'll understand what makes her love light
I know when I read to the one I love, we both enjoy
it so very much. Even when I've read the book before,
I am taken to the place again in a different way. And Vicki,
she loves it so very much and can hardly wait for me
to read some more and see where it takes us.
Reading To My Baby
© by Bud Lemire on April 23, 2013
Reading to my baby, as she lies in bed
She listens very closely, to each word that's said
A well written adventure, set in fantasy
Wizards and more magic, a world you can see
Imagination flowing, with every word
Taken flight, just like a yellow bird
Listening to my voice, a smile on her face
With the words spoken, she's in a special place
Chapter after chapter, words that always flow
Wondering just exactly, where it's going to go
She listens and thinks “how very sweet”
While I read on, I feel so complete
I take time out, to take a drink
Looking back again, at the words of ink
I continue once more, taking my baby everywhere
She loves it very much, when I like to share
She has the speaker, set up on her phone
It is just the two of us, we are all alone
When my voice is ready, we take a break
Feeling very wonderful, with each breath I take
Vicki, I love reading to you
Sing Out A Song
© by Bud Lemire on Nov 18, 2014
Sing until you can't sing no more
Let it all out and let your voice soar
Let out your feelings, give voice to your soul
Give us a song, so that we'll also know
Sing it out out loud
Yet not in a crowd
Sing it out alone
Or on the telephone
Let your soul sing out exactly how you feel
Sing us a story, touching all that is real
From your heart and soul, we'll listen to
Sweet harmony in a song that's from you
Sing us a tune to make us want to sing along
Let your voice dance in the air so very strong
Let us feel the message in what we hear
In the song that you share, a song full of cheer
Sing out a song that will make you feel great
At the spur of the moment, so you don't have to wait
Sing out a song of love and of laughter
That will have us so happy, forever and after
No matter if you think you have a good voice
or not, singing is good for your soul. Expressing
yourself and letting out a song makes you feel good.
It is a song that must have touched you, and you
decided to share it with the Universe. Whether in a
crowd or alone, it will always make you feel better.
Whether it is a well known song, or one you made up
at the spur of the moment, it is sung with a good feeling
inside. Music really does touch the soul, and the voice
can touch so much as well. Even a voice that is not sung
in song, can really touch you. I do believe there is good
energy in each song that uplifts us. So, keep on singing,
and keep on dancing to every song.
Solitaire
© by Bud Lemire on Feb 10, 2003
Caught up in a game of Solitaire
Can't seem to find, the aces anywhere
The twos are out, and the threes are too
But without the aces, there's nothing to do
I went through the cards, in the pack
They must be uncovered, so I can play back
No black queen, to play on the red king
I can move the black jack, now there's nothing
There from the pack, there comes a red nine
Now I see many plays, and I'm doing fine
Here comes a black eight, followed by a red seven
I'm getting much closer, to being in card Heaven
Oh come on cards, don't fail me
Bring me a black six, oh, let me see
There it is, a black six of spades to play
And here's a five of diamonds, it is a good day
Here comes those aces, one by one they appear
The diamond, club, heart, and spades, all in good cheer
I am so happy! I just won the game!
Having fun with cards, Solitaire is the name
Songs In Time
© by Bud Lemire on Oct 5, 2014
Music of the past brings me a memory
Present music is a gift of what is meant to be
Future music is exciting to look forward to
Songs from every time are there for you
Memories in a life, songs will take you there
Music of the past, can take you anywhere
To an earlier time, when the words in the song were saying
While inside your mind, the memories were displaying
In the present songs that you listen to
They're in your life to help you through
Fresh and current, alive and vivid to your ears
They will calm and excite you, and take away your fears
Music that we're waiting to be released next week
Enhanced anticipation for something that we seek
What will it sound like, will it sound like they did before
Music that you love to keep up with, and you ask for more
Past, present, and future, music is the key
Touching upon our souls, in sweet harmony
Music is the sound that touches us all the way through
Music guides our soul in everything that we do
Music is the one thing that has touched me since the
day I was born. It can wake you up and make you feel
like dancing. It can help you go to sleep at night.
It can make you cry. Music is indeed the language key
of the Universe, which everyone loves.
Spoons
© 2002 by Bud Lemire
It's frustrating to know, when trying to get four
Grabbing for spoons, when your hand is so sore
I had it I'm sure, but someone grabbed it from me
It would be much better, if it was in a cup of tea
When those cards go around, and I'm looking for threes
And I look on the table, and it's no spoons I sees
I get another letter, of a game I will lose
Because of a spoon, that I didn't choose
You have to be alert, and watch the cards and the table
And grab very fast, and get a spoon if you're able
Those spoons will be dancing, and cards will be flying
While you're grabbing to win, that's the best that you're trying
With eyes once again, on the cards that are on hand
The motions of all, to see where the spoons will land
Oh darn! It's me who couldn't get a spoon
I was trying to get four cards alike, it ended too soon
Whether I win or I lose, it's a fun game to play
With the people involved, on this special day
It was a time to enjoy, for everyone there
But it would be much better, if there was a spoon to spare
Spoons was a family game that my family played. It was a
lot of fun playing. When someone went out, they grabbed a
spoon. You had to grab it as soon as you saw them grab it.
But they were always short one spoon, so that the last person
didn't get one.

He
wove great stories, written so well
They
seemed so real, it was hard to tell
With
the magic of Shannara woven inside
Accompanied
by the black staff as his guide
They
say great things come from a great mind
With
all of his books that’s what I find
From
the very first book, to the latest one
They’re
hard to put down until I am done
The
Gypsy Morph, and the Shannara Elf
And
The Landover books are all on my bookshelf
The
pages were turned so quickly by me
What
happened next is what I wanted to see
A
master of fantasy, he shared his stories in books
Thanks
for the pleasure you’ve given, dear Mr.Brooks
The
adventure you took us on, all through the years
The
Word as our guide in conquering our demons and fears
In
life our problems can be small or large
We
carry a black staff if we’d only take charge
It
helps us to battle our problems each day
And
all other issues that came our way
A
kingdom of Elves, and Ghosts as our guide
We
carry the gift of the magic, deeply inside
Thank
you Terry, for the adventure you’ve taken us
on
over the years. It’s been amazing and wondrous!
The Doctor (Who)
© by Bud Lemire on Jan 12, 2004
The Doctor and his companions travel time and space
Never knowing where or when, Who will show their face
The grinding of the TARDIS, as you see it disappear
Off on some adventure, where they must face their fear
Daleks, Cybermen, Seadevils, and so many more
Enemies in the time stream, where all Whovians soar
Who could forget the Master, The Doctor's deadliest foe
Never knowing who you're up against, wherever they may go
When the Doctor regenerates, you never know Who he'll be
He could look like anyone, maybe even a she
It really doesn't matter, as he travels space and time
I wonder if he'll ever team up, once again with K-9
Maybe he'll team up with a cat, you just never know
Traveling the universe, Who knows where he will go
Maybe a return visit to Gallifrey, the Time-Lord with two hearts
Beating time in time with all, traveling the worldly parts
The Doctor returns to the screen in the year 2005
His adventures come to life again, time never seemed more alive
I know I'll be waiting, reading books about his adventures everywhere
As I travel time in space, sitting comfortably in my chair
I've been a fan of the British TV series Doctor Who for years.
The blue Police Call Box that is a Time Machine for the various
Doctors who have traveled off to distant places and planets battling many foes.

The Magical Place
© 2001 by Bud Lemire
Take me away, to the Magical Place
Where illusions are plenty, with challenges we face
A dwarf, a wizard, a troll, or possibly some elves
The quest of the warrior, that makes us ourselves
A ring that turns you invisible, or a magical sword
To help fight off the dreaded evil hoard
A wizard who is, casting his spell
Changing the water to wine, in the well
And there's a shapeshifter, who looks just like you
Maybe on the outside, but not on the inside too
Crossing the water to get to where you will be
So you can fulfill, your life's destiny
Life is like the magic we find in a book
We can find it, wherever we look
If we search for it, it will be on every face
The miracles of life, takes us to, the Magical Place
I love going to that Magical Place, and end up going
there as often as I can.
The Pen Is Mightier
© by Bud Lemire on March 6, 2004
The pen is mightier than the sword
Words come alive too hard to be ignored
They reach the heart, in a matter of minutes
Deep in your soul, and all that is in it
They can easily make a grown person cry
With every word that you let fly
You control the outcome, with what you write
Will it be a smile, or a frown you invite
How it is worded on paper, makes a difference in the end
What are the messages, that you want to send
Will it reach a certain group in the crowd
Or be read silently, or be read out loud
The effect on others, depends upon you
What you write, after you're through
The pen is mightier than the sword
Words come alive too hard to be ignored
The sword may pierce the heart and draw blood,
but the pen can scar the soul.
Be careful what you write, and choose your words carefully.
The U.N.C.L.E. Affair
© by Bud Lemire on May 5, 2024
They enter The Del Floria Tailor Shop, which is where they work
The United Network Command for Law and Enforcement, where U.N.C.L.E. Agents lurk
Solo and Kuryakin, today tend to be in a rush
It's because, they're battling their archenemy T.H.R.U.S.H.
Mr. Waverly, their boss, has Instructions for them each
So they meet up together, and he gives a speech
He says “it will be a complicated Affair”
“With all caution, be careful and beware”
Two of the top agents Solo and Kuryakin, are sent out
They know that taking action, is what it's all about
T.H.R.U.S.H. Could be anywhere, it's finding out where they are
Many times a mission such as this one, will take them both afar
The womanizer and the Russian, are being chased
So their car must take a turn, and be well paced
They are caught in an ambush, yet where is Solo?
What the T.H.R.U.S.H. Agents wonder is, where did he go?
They look all around, but no Solo was found
Appearing from the side, without a sound
Solo appears, knocking one T.H.R.U.S.H. agent down and out
Kuryakin joins in, and their training taught them to use all their clout
This wasn't the end, of this U.N.C.L.E. Affair
It was only the beginning, which could go anywhere
I enjoyed Man From U.N.C.L.E. When they showed reruns, and
just recently watched the first season again. I shall return to
season 2 after a break. I also enjoyed the books as well.
Trivial Stuff

Can you tell me the capital of Maine?
Or from which country, the Vikings came?
Do you know who the second President, of the USA could be?
Or where in the world, is the Yellow Sea?
Do you know what group, has John, Paul, George, and Ringo?
And who uses "Gag me with a spoon," as their spoken lingo?
Can you name the Great Lakes, there are five?
Or name the former Presidents, who are still alive?
What is it called, when you trace your family tree?
Can you name one green property, on Monopoly?
Who is the artist who painted, for the Saturday Evening Post?
And who was an Untouchable, and an "Unsolved Mysteries" host?
Can you give me the name, of Tommy Smothers older brother?
And how were Judy Garland and Liza Minelli, related to each other?
What movie has the Munchkins, and the Scarecrow?
Shirley Jones was a singer, on what TV show?
Who was once a boxer, and a piano man?
And who gets his strength, from a spinach can?
Who would you be, if you created Bilbo and Frodo?
Who was it that had, "a really big show?"
Who floated like a butterfly, and stung like a bee?
And on Mount Rushmore, who would you see?
Mr. Spock from Star Trek, what color is his blood?
Who was always hunted, by Elmer Fudd?
If you answer these questions, then you know enough
And your brain is filled up with the Trivial Stuff
Why Do We Need Music?
© by Bud Lemire on Jan 3, 2006
"Why do we need music?" asked my brother Clyde
That's a good question, so I searched deep inside
I believe it has something to do with our soul
The touching of our spirit, so that it'll grow
I believe it was around, before our life began
And was embedded in us, to be a guiding hand
But let's get back to the question, posed by my brother
And all of those songs I remember, that were sung by my Mother
Just like food is to our bodies, music is to the soul
It gives us strength to exist, making us feel whole
When our spirit is down, and it is shaken
It mends our souls, and stops all the aching
When food is normal, we add spice to what we eat
When life is mundane, we choose music with a happy beat
When we want to feel something, it's there in any song
Touching us in places, bringing us to where we belong
It'll bring out emotions, we need to set free
I know it does so many things, deep inside of me
The sad songs will give us release, and we will cry
Some songs will touch the soul, and make us want to fly
Why do we need music? God only knows
As it touches and uplifts, so many souls
After my brother Clyde posed the question, I decided to see if I could answer it.
Not sure I did, but where it took me in the poem was an amazing journey.
Music has become a very big part of my life. Keep on listening to the music.
With Flute In Hand

Long ago, they brought us Aqualung
Ian Anderson singing all the songs sung
Never too old, to Rock N' Roll
Music of the flute, touching my soul
The Minstrel In My Gallery, playing at my beckoned call
Sure keeps me feeling good, my spirit standing tall
Their music floating, right into my ear
Lifting me up, as though they were here
They bring me Songs From The Wood
And let me tell you, they are good
Awarded as, a Heavy Metal band
Light as a flute in the hand
Listen as The Whistler plays
The Flying Colours to brighten the haze
Heavy Horses dance to the tune
Catfish Rising by the light of the moon
From Roots To Branches, and Locomotive Breath
They play the tunes, that we love the best
So, everyone, let's give thanks to this band
That plays the music, With Flute In Hand
This is a tribute to one of my favorite bands, Jethro Tull
Word Search
© by Bud Lemire on Feb 18, 2003
I'm searching for a word, in the word search puzzle list
I've looked it over five times, but I'm sure I must have missed
Looking backwards, looking up and down
The word is missing, so I have a frown
There is a word, that I found out of order
A puzzle about money, and the word was quarter
I didn't know, where my eyes were going
But looking back, I found myself a coin
Searching for words is fun, if you've got the time
Up there going down, I found myself a dime
And as you sit here looking, snacking on a pickle
I see there at the bottom, is the word nickel
Sometimes searching for words, makes me want to holler
But it is always worth it, when cents turn into dollars
Even a penny has value, when you seek a word
Just like a high flying, eaglet gazing bird
I find it mostly relaxing, to search at my own pace
And it is much more fun, if it isn't a race
Oh there's a word, it took awhile to find
In the word search game, it gives me a sound mind
Loved doing Word Search Puzzles, but these days,
I enjoy playing Wordle and other word games.
Your Idea Of Fun
© by Bud Lemire on Jan 31, 2004
People must do what they love to do
You have your pleasures, they have theirs too
Their idea of enjoyment, may be different than yours
The fun time of each, has us choosing various doors
Some may like to visit a poetry place
Or use a webcam and talk face to face
Some may like to play Cribbage at their favorite spot
Others will browse stores, because they like to shop
Some may like to go camping and fishing
Others get caught up in daydreams and wishing
Some may like giving advice and comforting someone
The difference is so widespread, everyone's idea of fun
One person may keep a daily journal, because they love to write
Another may like watching boxing, because they like a good fight
Some may do their research, learning something new
Your Idea Of Fun is what is fun for you
Your idea of fun, is what you enjoy doing
